[Closed] TF Tuned/How many clicks of compression does your Pike RC have?

So, my Pikes from my ex-demo reign are borked. The compression assembly just keeps turning and does nothing. TF Tuned and the shop are saying that it's probably leaked oil, I think otherwise, as there are marks on either side of the adjuster as though the low speed adjuster has been forced past it's usable clicks - I suspect that the compression needle has been stripped - as the fork rides great otherwise.

TFtuned mentioned something that sounded odd to me though, that the RC only has a 3 position lockout whilst the RCT3 has compression and a three position lockout.

Which seems like total bollocks? Anyone else got one?

RCT3 has low speed compression adjuster in the middle and a three position lockout lever.

I'm assuming that the RC has 12 position open to lockout compression adjust, like the old motion control. Or is it three position? I'd heard 12, and would have thought Rock Shox would have denoted the fork RC3 instead of RC if it had been a 3 position compression like TF tuned are suggesting.

At the moment, it keeps turning through 12 clicks and if I remove the cap and use a 15mm socket to turn the compression adjuster it keeps spinning to infinity.

Don't know - their website is pretty vague.

I seem to remember lots of clicks when I tried it, but it was a year ago.

Mine's about 12 clicks, yeah.

Don't think it goes fully locked but not sure as TBH I run it fully open most of the time now.

Tom, your right, the rc is open to lock over roughly 12-13 clicks. It does sound like something mechanical has gone wrong if it's just spinning, but as far as I'm aware there is no compression needle in the rc as that's for the low speed adjustment which the rc doesn't have.

And the fork should pretty much lock out if there's no leak in the damper.

All the manuals indicate the adjustor is a low speed comp adjuster as well, not a pedal platform.

Hi Tom,

Internet/ phone diagnosis isn't always an exact science! If you want to call again or send us in your fork for us to take a look then please do get in touch.

Cheers, TFT

Hahah thats fine, I shouldn't have said "bollocks" guys. My bad - your service has always been brilliant, had a really great tune on my Monarch before which is why I use you and your service on my brothers bike when he was racing was nothing other than exceptional!

I might send it in, but I want to try and get it done for free first. If Maddison/my LBS messes me around then I will send it in to you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Would you recommend the Fast upgrade kit btw? And can it be done on the RC model? Figure I might as well, if I'm going to spend the money on a service.

Also, I know how irritating it is give free advice. So I will be sending the forks off to you at somepoint regardless of what my LBS does, as I don't trust them or Maddison tomake sure it's working like new.

Maybe the rc adjuster adjusts it all at once then to the point where they lock out?

Send Fishers an email and see what they say. Might have to go through the shop where you bought the bike from being an ex demo but hopefully they will be covered under warranty.

They were good with me about my pair of RC's and replaced them with some rct3's. Not so good when I had issues with the replacement pair so ended up ordering a replacement part from aus to sort them.

Is the low speed adjuster retaining nut tight? They have a habit of rattling a little loose and it does not take much to strop the adjuster working.

Adjuster shaft has probably sheared, have seen a few do this.

I wouldn't trust Madison either-they're not the warranty/distributors ๐Ÿ˜‰
