Question for the greater STW community....

How many MTBs will I be able to fit into a 3.5t box or Luton van?

Internal dimensions L- 4100 W- 2020 H- 2140

All bikes will have the pedals removed, bars turned and a blanket

Just for the record, I'm organising a group bike ride not a massive smash & grab from Evans

Many thanks!

16?

Two rows of bikes with about 8 per row.

If you were to pile them up on top of one another then probably a lot more, but more scope for damage.

returning from London to Paris a few years ago, we got 18 road bikes in a 3.5t transit (without stacking any on top of each other) and mostly with wheels on (maybe two off from memory).

Lots of removal blankets and flattened cardboard involved

As someone that spends a fair amount of time driving a 3.5t Luton, my answer is 'possibly'. It'll definitely involve huge amounts of bike tetris/faff and given how relatively cheap van hire is, 2 x lwb standard transits/sprinters etc may be a better bet.

They normally have strap bars along the walls you could get a handful up high. Keep the wheels on for as many as you can the slot in the wheels and frames of the rest. Bungy things together to minimise shakeage.

And caveat everyone that they accept scuffing etc. Personally I wouldn't give a shit because it sounds like a fun thing and that's way more important than a couple more scratches...

You're not going to be limited by space, the big problem is how you hold them in that space. 30 bikes, doddle, 30 bikes you may be able/want to ride at the other end, much more of a problem.
