This site has a lot to answer for. I used to have three - a hardtail, a bmx and the ratbike - and that was more than enough.
Now the the ratbike's on its way to becoming a wheel truing stand, the hardtail's the SS hardtail, the bmx is now the old bmx and I've got the new bmx, the shiteweather SS commuter, the fixed gear commuter, the antique, the lending hack, the good hardtail, the winter road bike and most recently the dream road bike.
Mrs tyred has two and the Tyreds Jr (combined age 7) have three between them. Maximum capacity is approaching, we'll have to move soon.
17....lots of stuff in storage...people keep giving me old vintage type stuff..... 3 mtb`s in use
2 . . . and 2 frames (one of which is on ebay at the mo').
Maybe 7 is the magic number.....
I don't know about the rest of you but me and jedi are riding GODS and we've both got seven bikes. Looks like the millenia age riddle has been solved. The answer to 'what's the perfect number of bikes' is no longer 'n+1 where 'n' is the number of bikes you already own', the answer is far more simple than that.
7
Cotic Soul (Main ride)
Specialised Hardrock (Road convert)
Proper TTL (BMX)
Think I need another bike or 4 😉
3 (Cotic HT, Scott HT, Ridgeback roadbike)
plus a pile of bits to make one more (Drössiger CX bike)
9 or 10 used to have 15
Just the 4 (and plenty of bits...):
Cannondale Prophet 140mm FS
Rock Lobster 853 100mm HT
GF X-Cal 29er 80mm HT
One One Inbred 29er SS rigid
2; 700c commuter and XC full susser.
Would like to add a BMX/DJ type muck around on bike and a road bike.
Can't be arsed shuttling the DH stuff around here and I get bored of it TBH anyway, so no need for DH. Would be different if I lived need lift served maybe.
Don't need/want an XC hardtail either; ride for fun, not race, so pref the comfort of the full sus. Could go for 5" instead of the current 4", but again don't need the extra cos of the terrain around here.
Roadie for "just riding" would be good; commuter has a small sus fork up front for the half asleep commute in and out of work and flat bars, but is a bit sluggish for longer rides when the point is the actual ride, not just transport.
Can't see the point of more than you can actually use and is why at present I would like another two, but don't actually have them. Would rather spend the money on other stuff, like travelling to new riding locations.
Seems I have 6
MTB
FS - Orange Sub 5
HT - Sanderson Life
SS - On-One Tinbred
DH - GT DHi
Road
Trek carbon something
Specialised Langster fixed
Thinking about a Pompino for a bit of touring too 😀
Cheers, Rich
I think I've got a Whyte problem, I've got 3 Whyte 19's:- 19 alloy, 19 Race (Carbon Seat Stays),& a 19Ti.
there's also a Whyte E-5, Marin Mill Valley, Orbea CX bike, Genesis Flyer & a Pashley unicycle.
Ragley mmmbop- really good but I never use it...
Road bike- not been used for ages, will probably sell it...
Deluxe bmx- my baby, I ride her nearly every day...
Three and a half.
4,
A Hardtail,
A 6" full sus
A Roadie
A tourer
I'd like to add a TT (but dont need one really), also a light short travel sus, and a comfy Ti road/tourer.
So yeah, 7 seems to be the requirement,
raleigh chopper for dicking around with my mates
spec enduro for armchair riding
marin muirwood commuting to work
gt zaskar for local muddy rides
on one 456 for all other rides
a 29er
a ratbike
a bmx
of course I need more!
5 full bikes and 3 semi built.
DH race bike: Banshee Legend
XC FS race bike: Giant Anthem Advanced
Road race bike: Trek 6.9 Pro
CX/winter bike: Cresent Race CroMo
Commuter: Cresent ladies 😳
XC HT race bike: Univega carbon team
4X race bike: Univega 4X
Road race bike: Old ally ex-pro frame
BUT, need more, need:
XC FS 29er race bike: GF (or now Trek) Superfly 100
XC HT 29er race bike (poss SS): Kingdom Bikes Titanium
Road fixie
AM 6" jobbie for our bike park
😆
None...it owns me - every time I ride it...
3 currently but want a 4th.
Orange P7 pro for proper MTB'ing
Trek 4300, with semi slicks as the commuter
Old Claude Butler MTB with child seat on for pottering about with the little ones.
I'm looking to add a road bike for the commute.
100!
That's 100 posts, not 100 bikes which would be nice but I manage fine with my 5:
- Geared mtb (Shortly to be a Singular Swift)
- SS mtb
- Old geared mtb/commute/baby carrying bike
- Road bike
- CX bike / winter road bike
Covers all the bases for me though I'd quite like a track bike again if I had the time to ever go to the track..
Ancient 1994 British Eagle Strike (for wobbling into town with - if it gets nicked, no problem(
1997 Stumpjumper steel fully rigid - being used by Dad but still mine
2007 Stumpjumper Comp HT - with about £1000 of upgrades - my baby
2008 Rockhopper Disk - Mrs Matts but I use it when mine is being fixed
2010 Allez Elite - very underused but good fun when we do have a ride on it
Many surfboards
Many waterskis
Two wakeboards
6 and counting.
Heckler 6" all day fun
Handjob 100mm Hardtail
Love/Hate 100mm SS Hardtail
Focus CX
Ribble Road (Winter)
DeRosa Merak Road ( Summer)
Soon to be getting either an Alpine/ BFe
In the words of my kids (not the wife!); "too many"! Actually, the wife says that as well. I just say it's cheaper than a sports car...err better not push that too hard I suppose.
Just the 5........
FS - Yeti 575
HT - Lobster 853
Roadie - Carbon Focus
1984 BMX, forgot what it is.
1989 Diamondback MTB
Oh yeh, the wife has 2 as well! 🙄
- 2005 Heckler with pikes (Real bike, doesn't get ridden enough as there just isn't the terrain around the north east to justify it)
- 456 with 100mm Rebas (rather embarrassingly built up from "spares" - local trails where a full suss would detract from the fun)
- Singular Swift single speed (Winter, mud, local trails, suffering, fun!)
- Surosa Audax (commuting - I hate road riding but this bike at least makes it more bearable than my old converted mtb with slicks)
I think I would only replace rather than add to this collection. I tend to swap parts between the 456 and Heckler to give a longer forked hardtail with sturdier wheels so does that count as a half?
My other half has 2.5 bikes as well and she wants a real road bike. Looks like space in the garage will be at a premium soon.
(Edit) Actually decided that I don't want to advertise on here the total content of my garage
1.5 bikes for me
my 2004 sworks enduro....its a do everything bike
Giant xtc frame only now as i have broken it down to build a bike for the GF
1 for the GF
the GF has a kona scrap which she loves as she has colour coded it all!
On-One race bike
Ribble road bike/training bike
Cube Agree Road bike
GF Rig 29'er (going soon)
Planet X Stealth (well, maybe if I go and pick it up, maybe not if she finds out)
BSA road steel thing - currently the turbo bike but maybe a fixie at some point
But I want/am swopping the 9'er for a CX bike and I'd like something trialsy again, depending on my back
I've got 4 based upon seasonal riding
Winter = s/s CX for road
= s/s (soon to be sturmey-archer 3 speed) HT MTB
Summer = Road bike
= full sus MTB
plus my old full sus MTB is now my Mrs D's
plus son has my wife's old MTB (but needs replacing as it's an old Muddy Fox)
Glad I read this thread, makes me feel better about my own four bikes.
Cove HJ - Not ridden much this year but hanging on to it as it's the only bike that child seat fits on.
Lapierre Zesty - Newish and ridden loads, think I'm in love with it.
Lapierre Froggy - Also newish and ridden quite a lot, mainly uplift and DH.
Charge Blender - Hardly ridden at all but it was a killer bargain so it's not losing me any money.
2 a green one and a black one 😀
1x FR/DH bike. But have access to my dads XC HT.
4-5 for me
On-one pomp for commuting
On-one 456 general trail centre, eduros etc.
Scandal 69er rigid SS light weight low maintenance for gentler touring rides. (Sorry bit of an on-one fest but they are tidy frames, well designed and good value.)
DH bike Giant Faith (old style) for DH upift days
Just built up a hack rigid SS out of parts lying around for general rides with the kids on the wee ride.
Horses for courses. I use all of the above for different rides through out the year. I think I'll stop at that though.
I enjoy fettling building up bikes, looking for bargains parts as much as the riding.
I am running out of space though so I'm having to build a garage.
THe wife's not happy about the amount of bikes I have.
2009 On One Scandal
1998 Merlin Malt 3 for commuting purposes (too many good memories to sell!)
1990 Orange Clockwork. currently frame only in the attic
Missus has 1- Giant XTC

I have plenty of other things in my life to spend money on before bikes unfortunately.
2

1 x Orange G2 - Main Bike but upgraded heavily due to me falling off regularly and snapping things.
1 x Merlin Malt 1 (Wife's bike that I sometimes use (when mine's broken), so only classed as half)
Now got 1 x 1986 Raleigh Pursuit Road Bike
and a freebie Haro Mountain Bike that i'm going to fit a child seat to for my son to join me on rides.
But I still want -
a SS
a 29er
and a full-suss.
08 Pitch Pro
Enigma Ego
And love em both 😀
too many...
Big Bike - Enduro SL S-works
Little Bike - Yeti ASR-sl (mainly my wifes bike now)
Bearded Bike - Indy Fab Ti singlespeed
Retro Bike - Ibis Bow-Ti
Frankenbike - Orange Sub-zero
Town bike - Brompton
Play bike - unbranded trials thingo
bloody hell...
FSR Stumpjumper - for mountain biking
Giant SCR 2 - for road biking
Ridgeback Voyage tourer- commuting/touring (hopefully)/slower road biking
And an old 7 speed Nexus geared town bike - for going in town on the lash and leaving overnight at the station when away with work
I'd quite like a CX bike and a long travel steel HT too. And an Orange 5. And a lightweight full carbon road bike. And a winter mtb with a rohloff. Maybe a single speed. A refurbished 1998 Trek 4000... (you get the idea)
2 - single speed commuter (road bike) and mountain bike (voodoo bokor)
the only other bike I'd want is a posh roadbike (with gears obviously) for weekends etc
personally I can't see why you'd want any more than a pub bike, a road bike and mountain bike. I really can't see the point in having loads of bikes that all do the same job but that's just me...
nearly 6
Be-one road bike
Kona sutra tourer
Pashley tuberider
On-one ti456
On-one ti29er
Just ordered a pompetamine frame & fork so I can tidy the garage up by putting my spare bits onto a frame...
personally I can't see why you'd want any more than a pub bike, a road bike and mountain bike. I really can't see the point in having loads of bikes that all do the same job but that's just me...
Bikes for touring, cross, racing ,tt ,track ,road race, training ,singlespeed, hardtail ,rigid mtb.pub bike.tandem+several others in the stable or waiting to join the stable
4, HT(SS), HT, FS and commuter.
A lot less than I used to! No SS, pub bikes or frankenhacks anymore - so it's 3...
'08 S-Works Roubaix for everything on the road - just stuck a seatpost mounted rack on it and done 350 odd miles touring...
'09 Giant Anthem X with long forks and wide bars for big days out
'10 On One 456 with short forks and wide bars for everything else.
There may be a couple of frames in the loft, and Mrs GTTH's bike that's just a bit of metal for dust to cling on to, but that's it right now, and I quite like it like that. 🙂
4
04 Mount Vision 100mm travel FS
09 Wolf Ridge 140mm FS
Boardman Comp hybrid road bike
Carrera commuter/shopping bike
Don't think the MV is going to get much use now though..

1 road bike
1 fully rigid MTB

Having just been given the elbow, I can see this number increasing now. Getting quite in to doing TTs at the moment.
5 and a half...
1 5" full suss for crashing about on, although it's never been crashed and actually rarely gets ridden... Hmm.
1 singlespeed for blasting around trail centres and local trails (my fav bike)
1 nice road bike
1 fixed road bike for winter
1 hardtail, missing the frame (but everything else is ready)
1 tandem for me and the missus
It's time for a clearout though, so I think I'm going to sell nearly everything and get a new posh road bike, build a new winter bike and have just one geared mountain bike (probably a Soul or Bfe) for the odd time I get out in the hills, get up to one of the Staines or for towing a trailer...
Kind of excited about getting rid of everything and starting again (everyone loves a project, right?), and also can't really face the hassle of breaking everything up only to face the eBay questions...
3 whole bikes.
A cross/commuter
Hardtail/140
FS/160
One FS frameset/100mm
One cross rolling chassis
Wife can't complain too much though as she has two bikes as well.
most people on here seem to have the same problem I do - 'Just one more, just one more'
So far my collection includes:
A Trek XC bike with 100mm forks
A cheap(ish) Trek 1.7T road bike for commuting to work
A Santa Cruz Blur LT

Pace RC200 F7 - Hidden from the wife

Got a maverick frame on the way.
4.5
Trance FS, Enigma HT, Kona SS, Lidl unicycle and Claude Butler Frankensturmeyskinnytyredthreespeed.
3
Titus Switchblade full suss 140 trail bike
Sarcin (innit) Kili something or other hardtail 100 XC race bike
PX Kaffenback commuter
Two, a Marin Rift Zone and a Kona Kula
Two - a brand spanking new Giant Anthem X4 FS with upgraded wheels and a girly saddle, and a 2001 Marin Nail Trail HT donated to husband.
Just sold the third one, a 1997 Carrera Instinct (no suspension) on the Bay for a decent price.
Who says all the girls have lower-specced bikes than their OHs? 8)
0. Just sold a frame to buy a frame and am waiting for the one coming my way to be stripped down.
I think the most I ever had was four and one of those never really got ridden (FS, SS, road SS, CX).
One! And my girlfriend owns three!
I've always been a firm believer of the saying,"you can only ride one bike at a time",that's why I have 7..... 8)
Each one rides a bit different to the other,
3 have bounce at both ends of various amounts...
2 only bounce at the front
2 have no bounce or gears at all(one of which also has silly sized wheels).
Like to swop'n'chop things every now & again so that one may have an odd sized wheel on the front,or road tyres & gears for a bit.Basically in any one week of the year I'll ride 3-4 different bike set-ups.
Change is good & keeps it fresh 😀
I think it's useful having some overlap. My HT is awaiting a brake repair and upgrade but it's OK, I can ride my FS while I'm waiting.
4 at the moment.
Tifosi CK7 Road Bike built by me with 9 speed Campag stuff
On One 29er with SRAM X7
13 year old Giant Terrago (with lots of mods)
30 year old 26" Harry Quinn Road Bike stunningly refurbished with up to date Campag kit.
Only one now, Kinesis Decade single speed, but it gets ridden every day and I have no massive yearning for a second.
2 x 140mm 456s
Cheapo Banger 456 for work (And rides out straight from work). 8 speed, AM2 forks, rusty, heavy
Posher 456 for when I dont have to leave it anywhere . Foxes, (Maybe Alfine soon) lighter, new frame 🙂
5
Orange 5 FS (for playing)
Salsa Moto Rapido HT (for racing)
Spesh Tricross Comp (for road)
Airnimal Chameleon (for sale)
Scott Sub 10 Hybrid (for commuting)
RopeyReignRider - sorry to hear of your sad loss, hope you're back on two wheels soon.
currently:
Ibis Mojo
Ragley mmmbop
Yeti 4x
(only 1 of these is rideable at any 1 time - use 1 build kit that fits all. Takes an hour to swap things over. Means i just need 1 of everything and not 3! (apart from chains, bb's and shifters.)
C'dale Badboy - getting punted for a Surly Cross Check built with some road kit i have to hand from a recently sold cube frame.
Hardtail - GT Zaskar - Retro racing and commuting through the winter
Trail Bike - Cannondale Prophet - Fun and trial centre stuff
Thinking seriously about getting a FS XC 29er for racing stuff like Bikefest and 100km events. I'd beef up the Prophet then for more freeride/downhilly stuff.
Also have another GT Zaskar frame which I might turn into single speed (or more likely x8 speed) winter/commuting/pub/going out with the kids/spare bike from left over bits.
After that I guess I might get a road bike for training etc. so I reckon anyone who needs more than 5 is seriously obsessed!
4... Orange Alpine 160
Giant Anthem
Specialized rockhopper built as singlespeed
Specialized Allez road bike
Maybe buy a carbon road bike next!!
