I think I've got a Whyte problem, I've got 3 Whyte 19's:- 19 alloy, 19 Race (Carbon Seat Stays),& a 19Ti.
there's also a Whyte E-5, Marin Mill Valley, Orbea CX bike, Genesis Flyer & a Pashley unicycle.

4,

A Hardtail,
A 6" full sus
A Roadie
A tourer

I'd like to add a TT (but dont need one really), also a light short travel sus, and a comfy Ti road/tourer.

So yeah, 7 seems to be the requirement,

Old Claude Butler MTB with child seat on for pottering about with the little ones.

I'm looking to add a road bike for the commute.

100!

That's 100 posts, not 100 bikes which would be nice but I manage fine with my 5:

- Geared mtb (Shortly to be a Singular Swift)
- SS mtb
- Old geared mtb/commute/baby carrying bike
- Road bike
- CX bike / winter road bike

Covers all the bases for me though I'd quite like a track bike again if I had the time to ever go to the track..

In the words of my kids (not the wife!); "too many"! Actually, the wife says that as well. I just say it's cheaper than a sports car...err better not push that too hard I suppose.

- 2005 Heckler with pikes (Real bike, doesn't get ridden enough as there just isn't the terrain around the north east to justify it)
- 456 with 100mm Rebas (rather embarrassingly built up from "spares" - local trails where a full suss would detract from the fun)
- Singular Swift single speed (Winter, mud, local trails, suffering, fun!)
- Surosa Audax (commuting - I hate road riding but this bike at least makes it more bearable than my old converted mtb with slicks)

I think I would only replace rather than add to this collection. I tend to swap parts between the 456 and Heckler to give a longer forked hardtail with sturdier wheels so does that count as a half?

My other half has 2.5 bikes as well and she wants a real road bike. Looks like space in the garage will be at a premium soon.

On-One race bike
Ribble road bike/training bike
Cube Agree Road bike
GF Rig 29'er (going soon)
Planet X Stealth (well, maybe if I go and pick it up, maybe not if she finds out)
BSA road steel thing - currently the turbo bike but maybe a fixie at some point

But I want/am swopping the 9'er for a CX bike and I'd like something trialsy again, depending on my back

I've got 4 based upon seasonal riding

Winter = s/s CX for road
= s/s (soon to be sturmey-archer 3 speed) HT MTB
Summer = Road bike
= full sus MTB

plus my old full sus MTB is now my Mrs D's
plus son has my wife's old MTB (but needs replacing as it's an old Muddy Fox)

Glad I read this thread, makes me feel better about my own four bikes.

Cove HJ - Not ridden much this year but hanging on to it as it's the only bike that child seat fits on.

Lapierre Zesty - Newish and ridden loads, think I'm in love with it.

Lapierre Froggy - Also newish and ridden quite a lot, mainly uplift and DH.

Charge Blender - Hardly ridden at all but it was a killer bargain so it's not losing me any money.

4-5 for me

On-one pomp for commuting
On-one 456 general trail centre, eduros etc.
Scandal 69er rigid SS light weight low maintenance for gentler touring rides. (Sorry bit of an on-one fest but they are tidy frames, well designed and good value.)
DH bike Giant Faith (old style) for DH upift days
Just built up a hack rigid SS out of parts lying around for general rides with the kids on the wee ride.

Horses for courses. I use all of the above for different rides through out the year. I think I'll stop at that though.

I enjoy fettling building up bikes, looking for bargains parts as much as the riding.

I am running out of space though so I'm having to build a garage.

THe wife's not happy about the amount of bikes I have.

I've recently gone from 1 and a half to 3 and a half.

1 x Orange G2 - Main Bike but upgraded heavily due to me falling off regularly and snapping things.
1 x Merlin Malt 1 (Wife's bike that I sometimes use (when mine's broken), so only classed as half)

Now got 1 x 1986 Raleigh Pursuit Road Bike
and a freebie Haro Mountain Bike that i'm going to fit a child seat to for my son to join me on rides.

But I still want -

a SS
a 29er
and a full-suss.

FSR Stumpjumper - for mountain biking
Giant SCR 2 - for road biking
Ridgeback Voyage tourer- commuting/touring (hopefully)/slower road biking
And an old 7 speed Nexus geared town bike - for going in town on the lash and leaving overnight at the station when away with work

I'd quite like a CX bike and a long travel steel HT too. And an Orange 5. And a lightweight full carbon road bike. And a winter mtb with a rohloff. Maybe a single speed. A refurbished 1998 Trek 4000... (you get the idea)

2 - single speed commuter (road bike) and mountain bike (voodoo bokor)

the only other bike I'd want is a posh roadbike (with gears obviously) for weekends etc

personally I can't see why you'd want any more than a pub bike, a road bike and mountain bike. I really can't see the point in having loads of bikes that all do the same job but that's just me...

A lot less than I used to! No SS, pub bikes or frankenhacks anymore - so it's 3...

'08 S-Works Roubaix for everything on the road - just stuck a seatpost mounted rack on it and done 350 odd miles touring...
'09 Giant Anthem X with long forks and wide bars for big days out
'10 On One 456 with short forks and wide bars for everything else.

There may be a couple of frames in the loft, and Mrs GTTH's bike that's just a bit of metal for dust to cling on to, but that's it right now, and I quite like it like that. 🙂
