Hello,
Off up to the lakes camping with the family at the weekend near Ullswater. I may have chance for a ride. Can anyone tell me approximately how long the following routes would take for a quick rider, solo, very little stopping? I think I have a reasonable idea but it'd be nice to corroborate the answers...

Route 1: Patterdale, Glenridding, Glenridding YHA, Zigzags to Whiteside, Helvellyn, Dollywaggon Pike, Grisedale, Patterdale (I reckon 3-3.5 hours)

Route 2: Patterdale, Glenridding, Glenridding YHA, Zigzags to Whiteside, Sticks Pass, Glenridding YHA, Glenridding, Patterdale (I reckon 1.75-2.25 hours)

ROute 3: Patterdale, Boredale Hause, Bannerdale, Sandwick, Ullswater Singletrack, Patterdale (I reckon 1.5-2 hours)

Also, which would you prefer out of options 2 and 3?

ta!

You might need a bit more time for 3.

My choice (alone) would be route 3. Far more riding, quieter and plenty technical interest.

However, if you jump in the car and drive like a loony, you could get a lap of Whinlatter in - it's signed and graded and everything......

cheers boxelder. I would like to do the Ullswater Singletrack relatively fresh. Last time I did it I had thrashed up high street, ran out of water and food and bonked. Not conducive to excelling at technical riding.

Is Route 3 (16Km, looks like 1 fairly big hill) not doable in 2 hours?
For a yardstick I did Kentmere-Gatescarth-Nan Bield-Kentmere - 17kM 2 big pushy hills in 3 hours (elapsed) on a wet day

Yeah, you're probably right. I've only really done those bits as parts of longer rides, and it is bone dry at the mo.
