Its a major, major factor for me. I can only just squeeze a small bottle on the aeris, which is fine on shorter rides, or longer ones in winter if we pass a shop, but doing a four hour ride in the summer necessitates a pack and even my tiny ergon one causes me to sweat like a beast. Unfortunately, being a short person means smaller frames, which causes major issues with some suspension designs. Bit of a pain really as it completely eliminates a ton of bikes I'd otherwise be interested in like the geometron.
A - and obvs you need matching cages and bottles
A- but with the caveat that a frame doesn't necessarily have to have bottle bosses, but definitely a location/space where a cage could be mounted.
DH/jump/BMX bikes are long over for me now. These days riding time/distances dictate the need for water, and unless it's a very big ride that takes me away from access to taps I prefer not to use a pack.
Stuffing a camelback in your stokers face is a no no, so definitely A. for us, luckily there are 6 bottle mounts on our tandem 👍
A! As above
About as much use as a third nipple. I think the last time I attached anything to bottle mounts was in about 1997. I can't remember the last bike I had with bottle mounts...
C for sure.
A - For the same reasons who most have given. Although I will still take a backpack and bladder on a long days ride.
getting a clean fill on a camelback fron a stream can be a challenge.
even if im doing long rides with a pack and bladder i like a bottle for the filling of the camelback
C
I get through at least a litre for 1.5hour rides.
B for me.
Old bike had a bottle cage and i often used it on shorter rides. New bike has the mounts on the outside of the frame, bottle would be covered in sheep/cow/dog doo fairly quick so theres no chance of me using one now
Can't believe how many people are using those horrendous bumbags. For me, C on the MTB (I can happily ride up to 2 hours with no water, doesn't really bother me).
I’ve noticed I corner better without a pack, I move my hips more - so nowadays I try to ride packless as much as possible.
So are all the As going to get a new Cotic Solaris?

SubscriberSo are all the As going to get a new Cotic Solaris?
I probably will, but I was planning to get one anyway, was just waiting on a colour that I liked!
C. Comes from years of riding Orange full sussers I suppose, never used the bottle mounts on my hardtails either
A for me, my back aches with kilos of water hanging off it.
For an mtb, C.

However, I'm saving for a frame bag to free me up from carrying things. I'm too much of an outdoor instructor - repair kit, first aid kit, emergency bivvy bag, buff and jacket go *everywhere* with me, let alone water and food.
