relativly simple - you need a chain whip and a cassette tool

you need a lockring tool and a chainwhip.

cage length is more about the range in teeth you have between the big/small and small/big chainring/cogs - longer cage allows a bigger range.

Really simple, i sometimes do it to take the cassette apart and clean all the crap from between the individual cogs, you'd be surprised at what collects in there!...like others said you'll need a chain whip and cassette tool.
