After building up a 29er bike and really liking it apart from the frame seems to have a stupidly low bottom bracket. Feet were skimming the floor on fire roads and flat trail paths. I'm thinking this may be a real issue when going on technical riding and crossing moors etc. Last bike I had with a daft low bottom bracket was a nightmare. I was just wondering how you measure bottom bracket height like the manufactures do when they list the geometry? Also my Rebas are at 80mm at the moment. Would knocking them up to 100mm make a difference to know about?. Shorter crank arms? I run 175mm at the moment. I could drop down to 170mm. Thats such a small difference though to make any difference? I also run low profile pedals so I cant change that.

It's just from the bottom of the BB shell to the floor. You'd be suprised how little makes a difference, on my Prophet i hit things in the FR mode which is 33cm but i'm fine in the XC mode at 34.9cm.

I don't know what you're at at the mo but longer forks, shorter cranks, slimmer pedals and also fatter tyres may make the difference. However if you're hitting things on fire roads you nay well be shafted?

Most manufacturers list BB drop rather than BB height due to the difference that fork/tyre selection make.

BB drop = the drop of the BB from a horizonal line between the front and rear axles.

It's not. It's from the centre of the BB AXLE to the floor.

Most manufacturers list BB drop rather than BB height due to the difference that fork/tyre selection make.

BB Drop would be affected by fork length. But not tyre size.
