And will I get some riding in the snow at the weekend?
Yarkshire is a big old spot, Pook, so you may want to refine your search parameters bit ๐
However, I can advise there is currently plenty of the white stuff on the ground around Huddersfield, West Yorks... ๐
Who knows if it will be there at weekend - forecasts vary by the minute.....
I was riding round hebden bridge and heptonstall yesterday, conditions were very good to ride. Roads are clearer than s manchester believe it or not
Melting fast in York currently (although whether York is really 'Yorkshire' is always a debatable point)
Here in valley bottom Sheffield its raining, but more white stuff arrived at altitude.
I think it may clear by the weekend, the "edge of doom" forecasts don't seem to be coming true.
Snowing in walkley at the minute. Stanage was impassible yesterday after the pole there was so much snow on top.
Sheffield precisely. I'm stuck dahn sarf until the weekend with no bike ๐
It's been snowing steadily up in Stannington since the early hours of this morning and not showing any signs of stopping, but things can change in a week...
My o/h is also down south for the week. I am wondering whether he'll be able to get home.
snowing since 5:30pm last night and hasnt stopped yet in oxenhope west yorks
Very slushy everywhere, slippy as a slippy thing.
Pook, it's warmed up a bit so it was melting off all the roofs last night. At the same time however there was more coming down and sticking to the roads. Weird. It's very fine sleety snow in Dinno at the moment. By the state of the Langsett saturday I would have thought there'll still be some next weekend around somewhere.
(Pics of Sat's ride on fb by the way ๐ )
Massive drifts on the road over Warley Moor Res this morning - Whilst it's wetter I can't see it going to quickly. It's also much harder to ride through - bring back the minus Cs.
got a bit slushy this morning in leeds but had a light snow fall this morning and all turned to ice again as temp just dropped
Damp n slushy in Saltaire, WET Yorkshire.
from someone on my twitter, "Tried Dalby today but trails were waist deep in snow!" that was yesturday. Here in Bridlington its all melted away, howver on the tops of the yorkshire wolds in place the drifts have been 6-8ft deep.
as steve says. mental on the tops. proper mental.
we followed a tractor into 4ft drifts, then jumped off the bikes and larked about in it. was epically hard work to ride in. even in the tractor tracks.
A lot of stuff that was rideable last week (Houndkirk, redmires-stanage track) have huge drifts blowing over them now. Where people/ 4x4s have been out it's still ok - blackamoor was great yesterday).
It's melting slightly in sheffield at the mo - the temperature rose everywhere by a couple of degrees yesterday.
It'll still be there in the Peak at the weekend, and the wind is due to drop - if a few more people/walkers/cars get out and about it'll be good at the weekend I reckon.
I should be heading out to climb on Kinder tomorrow/wednesday - I'll let you know what it was like then.
Went walking in the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday. Walked from Winterburn up to Winterburn Reservoir > Weets Top > down to Calton and back to Winterburn. The stretch up to Weets Top from the stone bridge at the end of the reservoir was drifts up to top of the thigh in places, wouldnt be any fun to ride at the moment.
hey simonm... how comes you did both winnats AND snake on the way from buxton?
When I say Snake, I mean the bit from Bamford to Sheffield... so not really the Snake. I go Sheffield A57, Bamford, Hope, Castleton, Winnats, Rushups, Chapel.
I should be heading out to climb on Kinder tomorrow/wednesday - I'll let you know what it was like then.
It sounds like snowshoes would be very useful. I was told that it was taking over 3 hours to get to the base of Kinder Downfall a couple of days ago due to the drifting snow!
This is happening in a lot of places - just snow blowing and drifting onto the roads:
This is what Ringinlow Road turns into at the turn off for the Roman Road:-
And this is what the worst bit of the roman road was like. Most of the roman road was compact enough in the tracks to go fast... but at the high point, it was super soft and deep...
that range rover is stuck by the way, looks like it had been there a while...
roger that simonm
snakes is still online as being shut thats all, looks passable... but it its the bit over by the dog kennels then its not quite the same.
cheers!
There was a whole train of 4x4s coming up from Fox house to "get" the range Rover. I told them to give up as none of them seemed to have/be using a shovel. They had only got through the bottom gate and the drifts were huge all the way up.
cool. So oyu all reckon there'll eb some left for me come the weekend?
Ringinglow-Stanage Road was still closed this afternoon as was A57 from Bamford junction.
Stannington is still really snowy. Unless it gets a lot warmer, quickly, I should think there will still be some around for you Pook.
