Hello,

I've got Hope tech 3 X2 203/185 on my fat bike and it could do with a bit more stopping power.

If I were to change to Tech 3 E4 on the front or both front and rear would I notice a big difference?

Thanks

Simon

Yes definitely, I used to have X2 on my hardtail, now have E4 race on one bike and tech3 on the other.

X2 are plenty powerful enough for an xc bike but the E4's are much more powerful and more suited to bigger burlier bikes. I would go so far as to say the E4 is my perfect brake. I have 3 sets of E4 and 1 set of x2 so I must like them.

Got E4's too. They're great. Not sure if they're an upgrade. The power available is irrelevant - you only use as much as you need and you rarely if ever use all the braking power available. But what I like about them are the feel of them - the levers and the adjustability available, the feel of the bite point, the modulation. They're just really really good brakes. These things can often be down to personal taste or just what you're used to. I've ridden a few bikes with the Shimano brakes everyone seems to go on about, but for me I just prefer the feeling of my E4's. The best brakes out there are the ones you prefer.

I love the X2s but there has been a couple of times on recent rides I've been using all of my available breaking power and a little more would have made things a little less hairy 🙂

ive done this, i had x2 with bt he older tech 2 lever, these where on my hemlock, i felt they lacked power. i replaced all seals, disc and pads but still not great, i did start a thread about it. i switched to hope tech 3 e4, they where the same weight but had so much more power and bite, i love them, i have put the x2 on my soul for xc duties

I think I may be sold on E4s. The question is just front or front and rear?

Buy 2 of these and swap out with X2 calliper or one to try?

I'd be getting it from my LBS. It may be a little more than online but they are a great pair of lads and try to support them when I can.

I've been wondering about just getting the caliper as the leavers are in good condition.

I thinking E4s are £155 list so should get them for £140. I guessing I could sell the complete X2 for £60. So would cost me £80

Just the E4 caliper would be £80 and could sell the X2 for say £20. So cost would be £60.

For another £20 I'd get a complete new brake

Tofu I have the race e4's great brakes but latest build limits to 160 front so having to source new brakes, just a thought suppose we could swap your x2 calliper with my E4 if you only wanted to do the front?

PM me if interested
