How is it that i always lose them when taking the pads out?

Even if i put them in a safe place away from where im working (along with the brake pads and the pad bolt) one will still go missing or i will drop one during fitting and not be able to find it on the garage floor!

To combat this i bought 6-8 pad clips at the start of this year, 4 of my bikes have Hope brakes and guess what, all those spare clips are now gone gggrrr!!!

They are only 40 pence each to buy but then its another £3 to £5 for postage for 6 to 8 pad clips that are smaller and lighter than a 2 pence coin!!

Rant over and back to the garage floor to find the missing clip!!!!

Get a magnet!

I butchered an old iPad cover and have one of the two magnetic strips stuck to my work stand for exactly these problems. Alternatively lidl/aldi sell wee magnetic bowls that are also very handy (and can be used on car bodywork). Can also be salvaged from old speakers.

You can use a bit of fine wire in its place.  thread it thru and twist it ( if you mean the ones that go thru the pin)

Got one of those and always forget to use it and it wont help when i drop the clip during fitting

Cant possibly do that, it would mess with my OCD on everything matching and using the proper parts on my bikes!

If i cant find the one on the garage floor ill rob one off one of the other bikes (summer bike, just hope i dont drop that one too!) until i need to place a larger online order and then ill get some more then

As said ive got one of those, i will forget to use it or ill just drop the pin whilst fitting and lose it that way!

Thinking i might get some magnetic strip tape and attach it to the bottom of a broom and then sweep the garage floor for the pin!

I always just remove them and rely on the bolt instead.

Lost one outside whilst cleaning the bike. Didn't notice for a few days, yet managed to locate it almost immediately. Had one ping off in the kitchen whilst servicing- took bloody hours to find!

Still not quite as infuriating as losing the 3/32" bb from the detent in the talas selector, only to discover the kitchen floor was littered with similarly sized spherical cake decorations.. (I gave up).

I've got lockwire in mine.

Decided the clip was too much faff for nighttime pad changes at the puffer, and haven't found a good reason to put the clips back in since.

I always try to fit the clip when I put new pads in - always fail and just bin it - I can never figure out how they work

I always use them, they are a faff. A bit of tying wire would work well.

there is a knack to the clips - you put them in vertically and do a 90 degree twist and they just go on.  Same in reverse to get them off.  got to be the right way.  simply once you have the knack

God I hate those things, infuriating fiddly little things in poor light. I never use them, never had a pad retaining bolt come undone, even when Hope used an o-ring instead of a thread on M4 calipers I never used them, I've got some anodised alloy wire in various colours from an arts n crafts store in Manchester, a perfect alternative.
