I removed an xt crank from one of my bikes last night(only fitted six weeks ago)and the crank spindle is pretty badly marked where the bearings sit on the spindle! anybody else had similar? i appreciate with the hope bb you have metal/metal contact but a bit concerned about wear.Should also say been using hope bb's for nearly two years with race face atlas cranks without issue.
Has the BB shell been faced? If the bearings aren't sitting completely straight, it's the only time problems really crop up with external BB's so soon.
gamo - I had same issue with both XT cranks and older LX when using the shimano BB, there is a coating on the spindle that seemed very susceptible to damage, been running a Hope ceramic for 3 years now with an RF chainset and not a mark on the axle. Bearins will only be out of line to each other if the BB threads are not aligned, facing the BB doesn't make any difference imho
Dammit, I knew that Park Tools were ripping me off!
