Anyone had to put a hefty claim in and subsequently been able to find halfway reasonable priced cover?

M&S taking the pee again this year and other insurers I've approached are unwilling to cover because of a claim from 2012 at old address.

Nope never did after my last claim about the same time as you!
Gave up the n the end and just took them off was way to much! Think it hit 1k for the full policy in the end

Five years is the cut-off apparently.

M&S want £840ish this year. I've swallowed it previous years as they were good at paying out, but money is tighter now.

🙁

Yes had a big claim with M@S who promptly upped the cost and dropped the amount of cover -we're now with Pedal Cover for nearly half the price and far better cover .

M&S are maintaining cover I think, but price very high.

Pedalcover couldn't help last year as the claim was within five years. Yours may have been a bit lower, if they covered you? Can I ask if it was four or five figures?

It's a few years since this happened to me, when it did I found the co-founder were the only ones who would do bike cover on house insurance for anything less than a silly insult

Have you thought about a separate cover for your bikes?

Or by going through your bank. I know Santander was cheap for me with home and bike cover

That was gonna be Plan B actually.

Might be more economical to have a limited separate policy for a year or so until I'm past the 5yrs mark.

🙂

Yep. I've had a couple of big claims in the past few years. C £85k for flooding back in 2007 and around £10k for a burglary in 2012 in which my bike got nicked. Was previously paying about £110 a month with direct line who had me over a barrel as no one else would touch me.moved to Bradford and Bingley this April and got it dropped down £35 a month

Mine was quite a bit more. I stayed with RSA. Last year I claimed for my race bike. They haven't thrown me out yet. Premiums are eye watering, but that's what you pay it for!

We had 2 bikes stolen and claim for £7000 we were with Aviva and our renewal which took into account our claim only went up by about £30 for the year which thought was really good. I think our house cover with unlimited contents and 3500 per bike is just under £400/year.
