I know it’s been done but search is being annoying and I’m a bit lazy

7 mile commute but nearly all on unlit bike paths and closed roads. Very lucky that I need to worry about seeing where I am gong rather than ensuring traffic can see me. Badgers are greater risk than cars on my commute.

I’m after single unit, doesn’t need long battery life as can easily charge, would prefer USB C charging and ideally £50 or so.

What are you recommending?

I commuted with a moon lx350, but for fast road went to a B&M fancy job (£90).

for what you describe a moon will be perfect.

Came to say "something by Moon", but it's already been done

I bought the Halfords Advanced 1800 Lumen Front Bike Light.

Don't make the same mistake.

Got distracted.
EDIT:

- very unclear what the charge level is
- if you want to go from max brightness to dim, and back again (e.g. for oncoming cars/peds/etc) you have to go through "flashing" and "off".

I've just picked up a Lezyne 1600XXL as a second commuter light, from Evans for £65

https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/lezyne/super-1600xxl-930328

Although I use an Exposure bracket, not the stock rubber band. Decent light. Solid, bright enough, looks well made. USB micro though, not 3.0, if that matters.

The lezyne build quality wasn’t great, mine failed at the charge port. The moon kit appears better made IMO.

Magicshine rn1500 from AliExpress for less than 50 delivered. Really well made, really bright and nice beam pattern, usb c PD charging, power bank function, Garmin mount.

Really really good lights. Available from UK sources for around 65

As above, the Magicshine from AliExpress. Pretty small, decent battery, great light pattern, easy attachment options and delivery was surprisingly quick! 🙂 I got it as a helmet light to complement my Monteer but actually also use it as my only trail light if I’m not doing stupid drops and jumps! 🙂

Is there a £50 light with that non dazzle feature?

@zippykona

For road use, look at Ravemen. I’ve got the 1200 on my commuter, but it’s over the OP budget. The single lens 1000 is closer. They have a cut off beam

I have a couple of sets of these.  Really really good if still available anywhere.  Lidl also sell the same one

I've got one of the old halfords self contained front lights (think it was the 500lumen model) which has been amazing for 3 years or so

similar to this

This one will be immense

If you shop around,  these should come in just under 50, particularly if you can get it without the bundled rear light. Lux output is not easily converted to lumens equivalent, but I've got a 40, (maybe 60) one which is fine for road riding.

I've got the Halfords one, older 1600lm and its great.

Just remember to point it down a bit or put your hand over it if you've got it on full power and you're approaching any joggers or walkers coming the other way. I've been blinded a few times since it started getting dark early.

how long does your commute take you? Then you can see what light is going to last the commute.

can get a magicshine RN1200 off amazon for £52.

25% off everything at Magicshine at the moment ("Shine25" I think is the code) if you fancy their lights but don't want it taking 3 weeks to arrive from China

Got the allty 600 which is pretty good in terms of beam shape but not quite at Busch&Muller standard. The Garmin mounting is really good, easy to take on and off. My first light died and they replaced it with no drama.

I would go for an STVZO light - better beam pattern.
