I'm afraid I've no experience of traning at all, all of the ones I've seen are very obvioulsy blokes.

subtle is best, don't go for a big blond wig and massive fake boobs, tone it down a bit.

resisting the urge to may tranny jokes, mainly because I can't think of something beginning with c to make XC like Cross dressing but instead cross... nope, nothing's coming. Shame

Do you have a massive hill climb near you at all. If you do, everyother evening just ride up it and back down again. That's what I'm doing as part of my getting fitness back before 'spring' routine. Is working surprisingly well tbh.

Make it an absolute pig. I'm usijng the worst climb near me. Had to stop three times 1st run and was very nearly sick.

I'm no training expert, find it hard sticking to plans, but a once-weekly hills session works well. Find a 4-5 min hill of middling gradient (10%?) and go hard up it, roll back down, repeat. So it's about 4 mins at Z4-5 and 2 mins recovery. I have a local loop that does 5x a mellow, long hill, 5x a middling harder hill with a steep top 100yds, then 5x a short, sharp bstrd hill, all about 4 min climbs. Effective way of coming home hurt. Can do a similar session on a turbo but I find it easier to work hard on hills. Do a 30 min recovery spin early next day (debates on whether this helps but does seem to work for me)

Could you commute to work on the bike?

Lunchtime runs at work. If you're really struggling to fit anything in mid week 2 half hour runs will be better than nothing or even a quick ride.

Spin class on the way home can be a good option too if there's one available to you.

If time is short just make sure the training is pretty intense to make it count.

I was asking in terms of distance really, 45 minutes drive could be 5 miles or 50 miles. But if you could do a couple of times a week it makes a huge difference to fitness. You're doing your training in what's normally dead time. Just a thought.
