Looking for some help with somewhere to stay for a week in the school summer holidays.

Will have wife and three young kids in tow so must be child friendly, looking for self catering along the lines of some kind of lodge/log cabin. Appreciate I'm going have get my pants pulled down when it comes to paying so I'm not expecting anything too cheap.

And of course, it has to be somewhere near to some good riding so I can vanish every night for a few hours when the kids are in bed.

Any suggestions welcome!

http://www.ullswatercaravanpark.co.uk/

This place has some self catering cottages, we've stayed there and it's nice. From there you've easily got the Ullswater singletrack and Helvellyn itself within minutes riding time. Also I'm sure there's some statics on castlerigg campsite, not the farm, the other one.

Edit: yes they do:

Footpath down through the woods to Keswick. At Keswick you have so much choice for riding it's unreal, it's like a mtbers playground.

Cheers lads, castlerigg looking good. What's it like nearby for kids activities?

Mrs not keen on yha (sods law), like the look of langdale but it's not the cheapest.

Keswick good for kids.
Really good play park
New BMX pump track
Leisure pool
Cycle path to Threlkeld
Lake
Climbing Wall
Whinlatter has a great play park too
Kid friendly walks
Puzzling place museum
Pencil museum (I know, but kids like it)
Cinema

6.30 tues for the KMB ride.....(not for little kids)

Try a Tipi or Bell Tent. They had them up at Sykeside campsite (just between Ambleside and Helvellyn) at Easter and looks really cool. http://www.nomadevents.co.uk/lake-district-tipi-bell-tent-campsites.html

Mrs has now mentioned the dreaded center parcs, anyone been to whinfell?

Can't help but imagine 1000's of people packed into 1 square mile.

Whinfell is ok, but it is centre parcs so overpriced. Lodges are well enough apart etc but most of the facilities are busy.

I would recommend not centre parcs based on your requirements, Keswick or the surrounding area and suggest you speak to Cumbrian cottages about a self catering, they used to look after my place in cockermouth before I sold.

Just a tad expensive. Circa 1k for a week in July before you even get there! Really dont fancy the idea of being captive somewhere.

Will have a look at Cumbrian cottages, thanks!
