[Closed] Help! Wiggle destroyed my frame! Need advice

I bought a pre assembled Kiron road bike about 15 months ago... However, I just noticed that when they built this bike up, they over torqued the front mech clamp and ovalized the seat tube. The clamp has deeply cut into the seat tube and seriously distorted the tubing. Now, I know I should've caught this when I first received the bike, but am I within my rights to ask for a replacement this far after the original sale? I'm currently awaiting a response from Wiggle, but just wanted to know what is reasonable to expect in this situation. At the end of the day, I'm left with faulty goods that I couldn't shift if I wanted to, so surely they should be liable for the handy work of their ham fisted mechanics?

I seriously doubt their mechanics built it up to be honest, probably came pre-built.

I expect warranty is 12 month's , but Wiggle are very good with these type of queries and I am sure they'll sort you out.

15 months ago! Good luck with that, but I think you'll have difficulty convincing them that you've not done your own spannering in the meantime...

You won't have any joy after 15 months I don't think. You have had more than a reasonable time to check the goods. Not really sure it would even be covered by warranty as there isn't any defect and the bike, I assume, has performed without problems in the last 15 months. Sale of Goods (s.35(1)).

I would hope that Wiggle are feeling generous in the upcoming season of goodwill.

Good luck.

As previous post states, how do you prove you haven't done your own tinkering within last 15 months. Having been a cycle mechanic in a past life, rarely do you fit front mechs onto bikes, they normally are pre-installed at the factory. You might check torque settings for safety in a pre-sale check, but seriously to do that type of damage, you really would be ham fisted.
You might be lucky with their after sales service, 'as a gesture of goodwill,' however, I'd advise taking photos of the clamping bolts to show if they are clean of spannering or over torqued. Still doesn't prove who over tightened them but might give you some credence?
Good luck...

Will have to try and control my euphoric joy next time I get a new bike and actually inspect it rather than ride it I guess!

"destroyed"? No. "Damaged"? Maybe. "Perfectly ride-able"? Yes.

You can argue that you'd have no reason to inspect the frame & therefore it's not unreasonable that it took this long to find out.

Not the best move to post up a thread on the internet before they've even had a chance to respond IMO.

The post wasn't a rant, just asking for advice to see what a reasonable expectation is in this situation.

Oh and I'd be keen to see pics. I'd have thought it's pretty tough to overtighten the clamp so much that it damages the frame - unless the clamp itself it out of shape. Some 90s Campag mechs did this.

Sure, but "Wiggle destroyed my frame", "Ham fisted mechanics" type statements are pretty strong. All IMO of course ๐Ÿ™‚

post a photo of it. lots of road frames come with "dents" to allow the front mech to clear the seat tube for weaklings to run a tripple

Seeing as teh Google sez that Kiron don't even have a website, I'm guessing a 14 year Chinese girl destroyed your frame, not Wiggle.
