Need to change the BB, a job I've dome many times.
However the current BB is a Shimano SM BB93 which I think is XTR.
My BB tool is just a little big to mesh with the indents, the new BB is am MT801 (XT I think) and fits perfectly into the tool I have..
Struggling to find a tool to fit the BB93, well I've found loads but not confident they are correct

Why in the name of the wee man is the XTR slightly smaller...damn you odd standards..
Is this not the one where they used to give you a little plastic adapter between the two sizes when you bought the BB. Not going to get one if that was the original BB of course. I think this was it but you probably want to find a UK supplier and make sure it matches what you have

My adapter is an fc25, this BB requires an FC24…

I can only find lots of FC25’s! I have got some FC24’s. Somewhere. Start a thread asking directly for an XTR/FC24 adapter in the thread title and I’ll bet that there will be one winging it’s way to you before bedtime.

If you're buying a tool, either will be cheaper and more use in the future than a one-shot BB tool you'll probably never use again.

It's a £2 adapter. Given how hard some bottom brackets can be to remove, there's no way I'd try getting one out with anything other than the right tool in case I need to get proper leverage on it. No going back once you've ruined the spline.
I didn’t realise until recently that the XTR bottom bracket is built quite different to the XT, and this is mainly for longevity with better sealing. (Obviously if an xt is substantially cheaper it’s hard to overlook)
Was able to borrow the correct adapter (thank you again Onzadog) and 20 minutes later a lovely new XT is in.
I never looked at XTR BB's but the XT was £21 from Merlin so you can't really argue with that!
still don't get why here's (such a small) variation in sizes. Anyway done now!
