I've got some upcoming flights with my Giant Revolt XL drop bar bike.
Stupidly, because the brake hoses are routed thru the head tube, I can't remove the bars.
And because it's XL sized, it only just fits in my Scicon bike bag and the shifter levers basically rub against the internal (padded) fabric.
(The Scicon bike bag is specifically designed to allow travel without removing handlebars)
The bag has got castors on the bottom which glide nicely so, in theory, it shouldn't be a problem if the bag is kept vertical. However, every flight I've taken requires any bike bag/box to lie flat (ie on the levers), at minimum, to go thru the oversize items X-ray machines and hence flat on the conveyor belts.
Therefore, I'm paranoid my levers are gonna get bust in flight (and I'll have a minimum of 5 flights over during my trip to deal with). I'll slacken off the lever clamp so that the levers can swivel if impacted.
As I can't be the only person with a road bike whose is this paranoid, I'm assuming there are some good solutions out there!
I was hoping to find something like a protective "case" on AliExpress or similar which could be clamped over the levers/blade assembly, made of something like hard plastic
I'm the meantime, I've used some PVC piping which I'll zip tie into strategic places as potential impact absorbers
.
Any ideas?
