Errr... this is rather embarassing but in all these years I have never had to remove a rear wheel skewer from the hub axle before. I have always assumed that you simply unscrewed and then it just pulled out -like the front. Having tried that today I see I am wrong OR doing something wrong.
Could somebody state the bleedin' obvious for me?
It's a Hope XC hub if that makes any difference

Nope - unscrew the nut off the end and pull it out. Its probably seized in place Leave the nut on and tap it with a hammer?

Cheers chaps. Bashing it did the trick and yep, it is slightly bent and very rusty!
Don't tell anybody I didn't know. OK?
