[Closed] Help! My computer can't see my Garmin eTrex Touch 25

Just plugged this unit in for the first time, re-activated my dormant Garmin accounts and downloaded Garmin Connect. When I start the device search it can't find the unit. Nor does the Garmin show up in Devices on My Computer. I have tried:
2 different usb cables
3 different usb ports
restarting the computer
checking for Garmin Connect updates
putting a micro usb card in the device
ensuring USB mode is set to Mass Storage in settings.
Am I missing anything obvious?
Thanks!

It's a good answer - I couldn't find any more recent than 2015.

Are they listed as compatible with your operating system?

Dont you need to install Garmin connect or some such first?

I had this with an etrex eventually it saw it one day and worked after that

I dont think i did anything magical to fix it but I do recall it being a massive pain in the arse.

Usually a random set of events and a sacrifice work for me. Drop them en email if you're totally stumped.

Garmin really aren't doing too well on STW at the moment.

Garmin Express surely - https://software.garmin.com/en-GB/express.html

Garmin Connect was deprecated a few years back

Garmin Express fails to find the GPS too. The Garmin website isn't much help.

I can totally believe that it doesn't work properly on W10, at least without some wrangling.

Check the Garmin's settings; my Etrex 3 has 2 modes, a Garmin one and a Mass Storage - both should work but Mass Storage seems least traumatic. It can also take several minutes for the unit to become visible if it needs to boot up on connection.

The inbuilt memory and SD card, if fitted, should both show as drives in Windows.

I've no issues with my old Etrex 30 being visible to Windows 10(64 bit).

Sorry, failed to spot that you're already set to Mass Storage. I think that you do need to install drivers; Garmin Connect is old and not required but Garmin Express is worth installing (and possibly required) and my include the driver package. Garmin Express is also used to update the BIOS.

Install Garmin Express and give the unit a couple of minutes to be seen.

Mine only works with the proper Garmin USB lead - are you using a Garmin lead? When you plug it in does it ask to go to 'data storage' mode or whatever it's called?

I had this happen, suddenly, last night.
Etrex 25 touch, used to connect both as a USB drive and via BaseCamp.
No it just doesn't seem to register as a USB device at all.
I seem to remember this being affecting USB memory stick, if they hadn't been ejected correctly - can't find anything (reliable) online, about restoring a 'lost' connection - lot's of atricle about it, but most are variants on 'reboot' or 'update drivers' but most of them seem to be sledgehammer approaches, with no real logic behind them (and they don't work)

Got mine working again, by re-installing Garmin Express.

I've never owned an authentic Garmin cable, and I can't think why such a thing would make any difference.
