I have a Trek that's meant to have a GXP press-fit BB and crank but I'm using a Shimano HT2 crank.ย This is possible because according to the person who sold me the frame (who was great btw, not complaining ๐ ) he changed one of the bearings to a size compatible with Shimano.
So now they need to be changed as they are rough.ย Having had a good look, it looks like the drive side is pressed straight into the frame and appears to have no HT2 style plastic cover/collar; and the NDS is in a plastic cup which is pressed into the frame, and has the typical plastic cover/collar and collar inserted.
So I think this means that the NDS is a Shimano PF30?ย But a HT2 axle is 24mm not 30mm?ย If the DS is a plain without a sleeve, is this a bodge or is it an actual BB type?ย There's no bearing number on the seal, it just says Truvativ Sealx.
The other issue is that I can't buy two halves of different BBs.ย So ideally I'd get individual cartridge bearings (fully filled preferably) from a bearing supplier and replace them that way.ย If that's possible with the plastic cup?
I don't know what I've got, basically.
Just buy a Shimano Press Fit BB?
What frame is it?
Some Treks use BB90/95 which is bearings pressed straight into the frame, 2437, 6805, 2237 etc and .1 oversize as well depending on requirements and type, some have plastic clip in shields, older ones have rubber seals that just sit on the face of the bearing
Some Treks just use a standard 41mm press fit BB.
Have you still got contact details for the original owner?
Trek Superfly FS from 2013.
Will a Shimano PF BB fit into a frame that was originally intended for GXP?ย I've got an email from the original owner but he didn't seem to know the specifics.

I have one of those yes, on the DS.ย I think GXP cranks are the same as Shimano (24mm) on the DS and have a smaller spindle diameter on the NDS to give that lip - is that right?
If it's 41mm PF using a 24 mm axle, then the cheap plastic Shimano BB is excellent.ย Reliable and creak free. Mine outlasted several fancier ones.
Am I going to be able to fit a Shimano PF30 then?
Speak to a Trek dealer (it may be helpful to have the frame number and exact model), and they'll be able to use the tech site on Dexter to determine exactly what type of BB set-up that'll fit that frame.
Have you measured your hole yet?
