My mate wants to do mostly devon back roads and the odd well groomed towpath, and was thinking of speeding his bike up by putting bigger wheels on. I have a pair of knackered old 700c wheels that we have checked in my mates Claude Butler mtb frame and they fit, can line brakes up etc.
But they are unusable so looking for a cheap set of wheels he can put road/city/towpath tyres on like these click1 or these
So I found these cheapo shimanos on crc (must be rim brake) 80 quid the pair.
Will these "clincher rims take those tyres above? Or does the STW hive mind infinite wisdom have any advice or cheap wheel/tyre combos for sale.
Cyclocross tyres normally on those width of rim (sure I remember someone running fairly chunky 29er tyres on a fairly standard road rim) so I can see why they wouldn't work.
After all a Mavic XC717 26" rim has an internal rim width of 17 mm (hence the last two digits of the product name!) and people run 2" mtb tyres off them..
