Plotting out a route in the peaks for the weekend, looking to include some of the best downhill in the area. We're gonna head over towards ladybower. Any pointers to the best downhill in the area? We're after more singletrack swoopy fast (if poss) rather than tech as the beast will provide enough tech I'm sure.
Particularly on this vid:
The bit starting at 0.35 where the biker just appears in front, not sure of this was part of the track he was on before, just after the gate, anyway, where is it?
Is this it? click
Thanks all.
Is it not just the continuation down to Hagg farm on A57? Opposite side of valley from the beast.
Yes it is.
It's the trail that runs through the "a" of Hagg Farm on your map down to snake pass.
Ace ta, & what's the track I've marked like? & any pointers please to other good bits, there are so bridleways that look promising.
The track you've marked is the screaming mile (nabs wood)
It's one of my mostest favourite desents in the peak.
You'll struggle for swoopy fast singletrack unless you stumble across the cheeky stuff.
As MartynS said, it's bloody brilliant, runs from 6:04 on that video. Fast as ****. Won't look like that video though after the rain there's been up there. That loop is still good fun when wet though, bar a couple of slogs.
I think most of the popular/legal descents in the middle of the dark peak are here:
on a map:
or in a list
EDIT: Actually, theres a few missing, mostly of the more pedally variety, though that could still fit your remit.
Whinstone Lee Tor-Cuthroat bridge-ladybower inn, oaken clough, jaggers clough, Coldwell clough, mam tor-hollins cross, rushop edge
Then less popular might be shatton moor-Offerton Hall, bridge end pasture-south to A57,
The chicken run along side potato ally is a reasonably swoopy descent. Dips in and out of the main track so best of both really. Look out for it on the right as you start to descend.
I still cant understand why people like potato alley!! ๐
I'll see you out there OP. Im on a yellow Butcher
Thanks lads, great response, that monkeyspoon site is a good resource but it needs filling in with all the rest of the Peak descents...
We'll be setting off from Castleton probably about 3.30/4ish. rough route: up roman road, down beast, thru nabs wood, south along the res, back up bridleway Hagg side, straight over & round to ride up potato alley (or carry up the beast) then down to clough farm. Then we'll see what time's like but ideally up to Hollins clough down Greenlands, Up Chapel gate, rushup edge and finishing with Cavedale possibly in the dark before a pint in the Castle. Hows that sound?
straight over & round to ride up potato alley
If you do this make sure you take the Hagg farm descent and don't carry straight on to Rowlee farm. (This is the bit at the beginning of the video - I love this descent!)
Can't say I've ever tried riding up potato alley, if you follow the bridleway past the bottom of the beast there is a climb up to win hill on your right (Granted it is long and not very exciting - maybe going up potato alley might be a better option actually)
Up Chapel gate, rushup edge
Both sanitised now so not sure this is worth the effort!
Hows that sound?
I reckon that pint is going to taste good after all that ๐
Rushup is horrid at the moment, as has been discussed at great length elsewhere.
Excellent video.Always wondered which they call potato alley spoilt with to many gates.Use to like riding up the Beast years back on the enduro bike good climb[as in EC200]
