Help me (diy) mod my frame

I bought an Airnimal Joey from eBay for a good price

unfortunately the supplied iso 520 rims have v limited and narrow tyre choices

I’d prefer to avoid going to iso 507 wheels but this remains an option

Scouting around web resources, it seems that people have modified or removed the chainstay bridge that limits my preferred option of 26” wheels

Ive tried a 559 mm rear wheel with a 28mm pasela tyre and it looks like I’d need to remove (file away) about half of the chainstay bridge for this to clear comfortably

Does anyone have experience/expertise on this please?

how could I fill in/ make good the tube that is the bridge

I’ve thought about gorilla tape/sugru/epoxy putty

i’d welcome peoples thoughts

many thanks

D

Why are you against going to 507? You get a fatter tyre and a decent range whereas 26" rims that will accommodate a 28mm tyre will be built for junior road bikes and probably pretty thin on the ground.

That chainstay bodge isn't going to be great for the frame either, you'll essentially take all the rigidity out of it so it might as well not be there. Of course it may well not matter or it could end up causing a failure, if you're comfortable with that I'd just clean it up and leave it at that. Given its a folder I'd err on the side of caution but that's me.

Agree with above. A chainstay bridge on 99% of MTBs/hybrids/roadbikes can be removed with no issue (generally there to fix mudguards to)

On the Joey it looks more structural.
