I am trying to find a rear wheel to use on my turbo. I'm reluctant to use the wheels I have on as I don't want to wear the tyre down on it. I already noticed wear on another tyre with light turbo use.
I have a trainer tyre, 23c. But I cannot find a suitable rear wheel anywhere. Must be 12x142 axle, disc, and suitable for a 23c tyre. Have found a couple of options, but for 25c and above.
Unless you're trying to get a 23mm tyre on a 23mm internal width rim you'll be fine with anything from 15 to 20mm internal width.
The pressure will be right up and you're not exactly going to roll it off the rim cornering.
There are nigh on 1600 option on eBay with varying prices.
I'd previously found a pair of wheels on Merlin, their own brand at a really good price. Just means I'll also have a spare front wheel. Might just go with those.
You could just build yourself a wheel - pick up a cheap hub and rim and build it with straight gauge Halo spokes for cheapness?
You don't need a trainer tyre either - any worn rear tyre will do. I've done both (and punctured only on the trainer tyre!). A dedicated rear wheel is no bad thing. And any width will do. A consistent pump gauge is all that really matters.
I just used a cheapo 20 quid Weimann wheel from my LBS. That said it was a 9mm qr rather than anything "fancy". I did experience blistering on some non trainer tyres. I use a Tacx trainer tyre and that's been fine.
Yea, the 12x142 has really limited my options, otherwise I would have been sorted already. Bloody bike standards.
Ordered the Merlin wheels, and they actually had some 105 cassettes in stock too.
