Hi folks, I've got a tendency to worry about stuff before it happens and I'm going to lose sleep tonight worrying about this...
I've bought a used niner rdo frame off of eBay.
The seller said it had an adaptor in that you can just screw a threaded bb in and out of.
He's clearly removed his threaded xtr bb, which is what we agreed...
However, am I right in thinking that all these pf30 adaptors are supposed to have the bb cups fitted and then get pressed in?
I'm worried he may have damaged this rotating it whilst undoing his cups out of it?
Or is there an adaptor that you fit and then you treat it like any other threaded bottom bracket frame i.e just change bb's by threading them in and out?
Aggghhhhh freaking out!!!! I don't want creaks!!!!
it'll be something like this... Right? They press/bond in, so any euro BB will fit.
I've an old commencal frame bought used with one fitted, no drama and my hope BB fitted without issue.
Is it a metal adaptor? No worries if so.
Not sure about the resin ones, but what you say does ring a vague bell.
Ahh I see...your user name is ironic.
Yes it is... I've explained this before
Not sure if it is metal or resin. Can't tell from the photos
If it turns out to be on the move then consider something like a PF46 BB from Hope.
Metal press fit shells that then screw together with a central threaded pipe that pulls it all nice and snug.
Available in 30mm and 24mm axle versions.
I’ve had the Hope PF46 in an old Zesty 314 for sometime. It’s bombproof and creak free when properly installed.
@chilled76:
more than 12 hours ago you had this terrible Pf30 panic attack.
Fine now?
I don't want creaks!!!!
Was also terrible afraid of those.
But found out: they are really harmless.
No worry!
🙄
Slept a lot better thanks to the link to the metal insert that is cearly intended to be pressed in and left.
Do Hope do one that fits a gxp bottom bracket?
Slept a lot better
😀
There are a few options - even if there is an issue with the current cups. Don’t worry.
Ok thanks everyone.
Frames turned up and I think it's got one of these fitted from what I can tell.
It seems to have one side not 100% flush with the frame and when I install some new bb cups (gxp) there is a slight noise. I think it is because the bearings aren't 100% parallel with each other.
How are these fitted, are they just pressed into the frame? Can I remove it and install one of the praxis ones that seem to get so good reviews?
