Hi,

I went to work on my old mountain bike last night but the QR had seized in the hub (might have been bent at this point, might not have). I then reached for the rubber hammer first rather than last thinking it would come out easy (sigh).

Then the QR definitely was bent, probably at both ends. After lots of pulling and swearing I decided the QR was toast anyway and hacked off the end without the lever, thinking it might help me. It didn't.

So now I'm stuck ... any ideas? New wheel?

Cheers,

Hmmmm Nothing is likely to be pretty/nice.

I'd try plus-gas down the hole, if any can penetrate that is.... soak overnight, flip it... same the other side...

Then sadly you're down to brute force and smacking the center ! eeek.

Make a plasticine tank around the axle hole and fill with penetrating fluid, leave to work, then drift out with a machine screw/then small screwdriver/drift

or remove axle and replace if the hub is reasonably serviceable.

yep agree with the action the others said, mind the fingers when smacking it out!

Thanks, some really helpful suggestions here.

In the end I just couldn't get the QR out even being patient, but I managed to knock the axle out ... that's effectively toast now but I can just replace that. The innards of the hub are terrible (I've not touched it in > 10 years) so I'm giving it some TLC, new bearings etc.

Thanks again.
