Mrs_OABs headshock is notchy, and headset bearings goosed.
.
Is Headshock servicing at home doable? I seems fiddly, but fine..
http://www.fastglass.net/bike/headshok/repair.html and others on't web.
Or should I just get it done properly? Has anyone here *actually* done it themselves.
(I can happily service Fox/RS/Marz at home with a good set of instructions / youtube vid..)
.
Has anyone an idea of how the heck I remove the lower bearing? It seems really corroded on, and there is no 'lip' to get a chisel on and [s]tickle[/s] batter it off as I might normally do...?

I think I tapped out lower bearing with a screw driver . I'd pop over to the cannondale forums at mtbr.com as there's some very knowledgeable people over there.

It'll take about £100 worth of specialist tools and parts to service.

You need to take it to bits (with the special tools), then take out the races, then measure the thickness of them, then order the races, then put it all back together again. Suffice to say, paying someone £160 or whatever to do it seems easier.

You should be able to tap out the lower bearing with a metal rod and mallet. Take it slow.

Get the genuine Canonndale headset bearings, the other ones are slightly larger and a pain to install / installing will wreck them.

You'll need a pipe to tap on the bearings properly without messing them up - aluminium scaffold pole does the trick (make sure it is the right i.d. of course).

Hi Matt, Good to hear little bike is still going (even if it's getting a bit tired now!)

Considering your location etc it's worth thinking about replacing the Headshock with a normal fork which you're happy servicing yourself. You'd need reducers and a headset and then could fit normal suspension forks.

Hi Matt,
We service all Headshok & Lefty forks including needle bearing and telescope assembly at our dedicated Suspension Service Centre and carry all spares in stock right back to the early models.
Feel free to call our workshop to discuss with no obligation. We can also supply you with spares for home servicing if you wish.
We're rarely on here so best to call or email.

Hi Lu - yes the bike is still going, and much loved by Jo - she will not be parted from it! It is light, nippy and fits well....I need to spend some money on it soon - needs lots doing, and needs a proper new set of stuff rather than keep older bits going...
.
I suspected that a proper service may be the order of the day - can do bearings myself.
.
Cheers for tip Nikk @ proper Cannondale bearings.
