Hi

Sort of two part query

If the (cartridge) headset is just showing signs of going can I get away with a bearing swap Or will the cups be going as well.

Does anybody know which bearings for a Scott espark shimano , headset appears to be
Syncros Pro / Tapered 1.5" - 1 1/8" semi integ. OD 50/61mm / ID 44/55mm

From eBay.

Yes, you should be fine just swapping the bearings only - they should be finger tight in the cups so easy to remove.

Best way to get the right bearings is to whip the old ones out and read the part numbers off the seals.

What are the symptoms of 'just showing signs of going'? It may just need pulling apart, cleaning and reassembling.. and it may just be one bearing that needs replacing.

Noticed a slight movement at the top bearing, finger across the join then pushing and pulling front backwards and forwards

As the garage is north facing I think it’ll be a nice task to have a look at the existing bearings during the heatwave

Cheers
