I'm having difficulty figuring out what is causing the noise in my headset.

The headset is making a creaking noise when the bars are turned as shown in the video below. I had this problem when I was running a Niner carbon fork on my El Mariachi and since changing the frame for a Niner Air9 I'm having the same issue. The strange thing about it is that it's a different headset in a different frame so I thought it must be a problem with the fork. I've switched to a set of RS Sid's and the noise is still there โ“

With the noise being present on two different frames with two different headsets and two different sets of forks it rules them out so what else could it be?

So the common factor is you? ๐Ÿ™‚

Are you tightening up the top cap preload enough?

Can't see the video, sorry - work system. Does it happen when you're riding along? or on the brakes? Could it be the front brake, or the hub?

I've had the headset caps move about in the frame before - not a nice noise. Be odd if it was happening in two frames, two headsets, but not impossible. Solved mine with Loctite 641.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, gives me some ideas to be looking at.
The noise seems to be mainly when the bike is stationary, it happens sometimes when riding but being on the brakes doesn't seem to affect it.

It seems to be, no knocking or looseness from the headset.

It's different headsets but the same top cap so this could be a problem.

Stem clamp onto bar?

New bars on the new build so I'm not too sure about that but I'll give it another check.

Creaking / dry cable ferrule?

It's singlespeed so no cables.

I can't see the video
is it a carbon frame? Had this with a carbon frame which had loose carbon fibre strands in the headtube rubbing every time you turned the bars. Made worse by internal cable routing.
