I picked up some of those cheap Marzocchi Z2 forks from CRC a little while ago for my daughters Trek Roscoe. I hadn’t realised there was such a range of headsets now.
The existing forks have a ball race on the steerer above the CSU, REALLY TIGHT on the steerer. On here sits loose balls, albeit in stamped cage, so it’s not the best solution and there is a lot of plastic in the the top race, tapered split expander etc. I could get maybe just a new lower race but probably will upgrade but the choices seem to be from £20 then straight to Hope or Cane Creek. What’s a decent middle range now? Superstar do a pick n mix range, they any good?
Sizing, there is only a thin flange visible top and bottom so I think it’s a ZS denomination. I don’t have a vernier caliper but measuring the diameter externally, it seems to fit the ZS44 ZS56 which is the ID of the frame sleeve. The other digits will be the 1.5 lower and 1.175 upper for the tapered steerer tube right?
All sound good so far or have I missed something obvious?
cheers
superstar are decent.
brand x frm CRC are also OK.
if it's ZS44/ZS56 then yes, itll be ZS44/28.6 and ZS56/40 for a tapered steerer
Your crown race should come off with a hammer/screwdriver and or chisel fine.
"a lot of plastic" is not any issue. I'd re-use what you have, assuming it's in decent condition.
