What happened to the GT bikes popularity, I know they were very popular in the 90's with the RTS & LTS etc, but now you don't see many about. I know the Halfords involvement probably didn't help.

I got one of the last I Drives, its basically the same shape as the newer sensor, it came equipped with Rockshox Revelations, Fox RP23, XT and Avid's as standard and is very capable, all for £900!

Not sure who owns them now but still making some nice bikes. I have a 1993 Zaskar LE
2001 I drive
1996 LTS 1000XC
and now I have a Peace 29er

Rumour is that the Athertons are riding GT's next year, that may help there popularity like when that lanky man of steel did.

I do like that bike - but considering how advanced it was/is (First full carbon bike on the WC circuit?), and the success it had, they really didn't seem to capitalise on it marketing wise.

The other way round tbh, GT walked away from Halfords into sales oblivion in the UK. Halfords show no sign of being bothered...

Sure, some snobs let themselves be put off GTs because of where most of them were sold, i think they'd have been happier going to another supermarket like Evans and paying 50% more 😉
