I'm having some trouble figuring out whether some components are compatible (may well be me being an idiot). Can I use a grx 812 1 x 11 rear derailer with a flat bar shifter like an rs700. Thanks very much for the help.
you should be able to get a shiftmate 8 from jtek to allow this, but road mechs have different pull ratio to mtb so they aren't directly compatible.
you could buy an 11speed flat bar road shifter instead.

Grx uses road pull so should be compatible with any 11sp shimano road shifter, which I think that rs700 one is? It wouldn't be compatible with a mtb shifter.
RS700 is a flat bar road bike shifter. I use one with my 11sp 105.
If all Shimanos 11speed road levers use the same pull ratio then it'll be fine.
