A quick trip to the tip earlier today saw me come back with most of a a 2008 Specialized Globe Centrum 😊

Noting special but I’ve always liked them and with a swap to some Alfine 700c wheels will make a good shopping bike.

Now I say most of as the frame and forks had been separated for transport and I don’t have the full headset ... no bother I am sure I can knock something up.

No.

Beaten.

On this year of frame Specialized went with a hidden headset. It’s very similar to a integrated headset but the “cups” are recessed much further into either end of the HT. Can I find another, no. Can I get the cups out, no. The HT has an internal profile that means you cannot get any purchase on the “edge” of the cup. I think the 456 carbon experienced a similar access issue.

It’s so frustrating that over something so simple the frame is potentially rendered useless.

I’m going to give the closest Concept store a call tomorrow and see if they can help. If not and I can get the cups out a std integrated headset could work .... perhaps .... grrrr.

Specialized were a nightmare for this. CRC picked up a load of s works road frame a number of years ago and noone could source headsets for them.

I think the closest available are campag headsets.

Good luck in your search.

Sounds like it’s a specialized mindset.

You say 'separated for transport' but it sounds like you have discovered why it may have been taken to the tip in the first place...

@orangeboy That’s Uber helpful, thank you.

Sadly the only bits of the headset I’d need to reuse are the ones I don’t have 😡😂

@dawson I believe it was genuinely complete when it went in the car ....
