Going to take the Mrs & kids to Grizedale tomorrow. All the routes i do are too much for them. Has anyone got any routes other than the forest roads that would be suitable? Bridleways etc. Kids are 11 & 12 and fairly capable & competent riders. Fewer hills would be best suited to prevent constant complaining though!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Ta.

maybe do the climbs on the forest roads and the flats/descents on the TNF trail

My son did NFT when he was 11 or 12 (but I don't think my daughter at 11 could do it all). Take you time and walk up hill. Take a map to cut it short if necessary. Just doing the fire roads is probably worse as you save no energy but its less fun.

The trail along the edge of Windermere is good.

I'm talking about this trail

link

you could start by the chain ferry south of my arrow. That would give upto about 10-12km out and back. Its relativel flat and scenic from my memory

Years ago I made it into a loop by carrrying on the road to Ambleside and then taking the ferry down to Bowness. Its then a short ride down to the chain ferry......

You could also loop back over claife heights, but I'm not confidet enought to choose a route. You could post again Claife heights family route...

Just in case you didn't realise Whinlatter has a blue route which I though was spot on with my kids
