I'd heard that the real quick teams use oil in their wheel bearings rather than grease. Ok we're into wet riding now so probably best to stick with grease but what do others use.
Anyone replace the grease with thick oil? How does it run?
It will run faster, but won't last as long, you might even need to re-oil the bearings every ride.
Don't even think about it unless you have a good supply of hubs and/or can be bothered to strip them down after EVERY RIDE!
Grease, I suppose it will drag but not enough for me to ever notice !
Oil is OK if u dont have to purchase your own bearings and you are a world class racer that requires every smidgen of assistance to defy the laws of physics !
Is it a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub?
Then 2 or 3 drops of oil in the oil port once in a while is Ok.
Oil seemed to work nicely for those bearings until people stopped doing maintenance on their bikes. 🙂
