There's a new memory map unit coming out. What's your budget?

garmin etrex and use easygps and bikehike.co.uk - not expensive, reliable, does all I need (for mountain biking, road cycling and munro bashing)

Surely taking memory map with you is best so a windows based pda and gps card. I use an old Dell axim X5 with a compact flash gps card and it's excellent. Far better than my old etrex.

I uses memory map on my computer. but when i am out on the trails i use ViewRanger (only any good if you have a smart phone with GPS)

i plot a route on memory map and then upload to my phone then use something like this around my neck to keep my phone with easy access and dry.

I thought my batters wouldnt last 5 mins, but i have used it for 6 and 7 hour ride and there was still power on my phone to make some calls.

Get something without built in batteries finding a plug in the wild might prove a little challenging.
Lithium batteries are ace, I'm getting about 3-4 times the life as opposed to alkaline.

I use a garmin gecko 201 with www.bikehike.co.uk

dead cheap, used it to navigate new routes in the peak, lakes and other, sometimes take a copy of the OS map too if its a remote location

I've been looking at getting the Garmin Dakota 20. Looks pretty sweet plus my HR and Cadence units from my old Edge will work with it...

bought edge 605 with topo map for gb,seems to be working well so far, personal trainer on it which will compare rides as you do them, after you come home you can view all your stats on garmin training page, look at your route on google earth, and can click on any of the icons on the rout and it will tell you how far you were into your route, what speed you were doing at that precise moment etc etc, will also tell you on the unit what gradient of hill you are climbing etc,the 705 adds cadance, heart rate etc onto this,a lot more than just a navigation tool
