[Closed] Gore Alp X Jacket Alternative?

I've been looking for a waterproof jacket for a few weeks now and if money was no object then i would have bought a Gore Alp X as i love the Paclite Shell but I can't justify £180 on a jacket.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative? My budget is around £100 (cheaper would be ideal but you get what you pay for) and i'd like something cycle specific. I'm only after a shell as i'm happy to layer up accordingly.

I've never touched an eVent jacket, is that a similar material to Paclite shell?

Any help appreciated

I used to have an old Gill eVent jacket and it was much more breathable than my Alp X. eVent does take more looking after and has to be re-proofed regularly. My Alp X has never been re-proofed and the material is tougher. I do find it too warm in the summer months though. I've bought the Fusion Active Shell jacket but haven't had chance to wear it yet, so don't know how that compares to pac-lite and eVent?
Montane do some good kit that is well priced...I think someone is selling some new stuff in the 'for sale' too.
Hope you get something sorted out.

eVent is generally held to be more breathable than anything except the new GoreTex Active Shell material. Other options include Entrant.

FWIW Active Shell is a lot more comfortable against the skin than Paclite (it doesn't have that rubbery skin). I just splashed out on a new Fusion Active Shell too - but it's not seen any action yet.

My night shift boredom means i may have found a 2006/7ish Gore Alp X Gore Tex jacket for £90 but i don't know much about the change in Gore Tex over the years.

Does anyone know how a 5 year old model would compare to a new model?

No particular difference. I've got one and I wear it probably 2-3 times a year. Unless its absolutely freezing I find I sweat like a pig, and it's more comfortable just getting rained on. Much prefer a soft shell jacket with a bit of water resistance

2006/07 Jacket had no hood, no stretch fabric on the arms and no fabric mixing.
