As it says above I'm looking for something to fill those roles. I bought a proviz a couple of years ago and it now leaks at the zip in really heavy rain. I live in Fort William so there is often really heavy rain. What would stw recommend?

i just recently bought one of these (in orange) https://www.galibier.cc/product/mistral-pro-2-cycling-jacket/ after some people here recommended the brand after i asked a similar question.

i cannot yet comment on waterproofing as i have only so far been in a lightish shower but it is very well made jacket and it was keeping me warm at 3 deg c with only a short sleeve cycling top underneath. it will also be idea for both mtb and road cycling too which is what i wanted.

i have no doubt though that it will be great at keeping the rain off for extended periods.

Buy two jackets, much better in my opinion.

Jacket 1. Lightweight windproof jacket that can shrug off a shower or trail splash back. This will be your most worn jacket.

Jacket 2. Proper full on Gore Tex waterproof jacket. A lightweight/midweight jacket that can withstand a full days worth of rain. This will inevitably live most of its life in your pack/bag/pocket but when required it will keep you dry.

Imo you can't really buy a jacket that is breathable enough for mountain biking that is also very waterproof and is not fragile. If you have super deep pockets then buy a Gore Tex shake dry but be prepared to replace it when it rips.

As I'm a Gore fanboy, I'd look at their jackets which there a few in the sales at the mo.

I got a Showers Pass waterproof  about 2 years ago, with a discount (20% I think from memory) c/o a Singletrack members code.

(Actually 2... a tighter/ lighter roadie one 'Spring Classic', and a slightly heavier one for mtb and commute (Elite 2.1)

I've been very happy with it so far, inc in a couple of monsoons.  Not cheap.  But defo recommended.

The Elite 2.1 one comes in nice sort of  yellowy-mango colour that is quite hard to argue is invisible.

Their UK folks were also very helpful online and by email to get the right sizing so I didn't have to order multiple siEs and send most back).

Oh... and the other answer is  one of the light smock type Paramo, err, smocks. Last for ages because there's not the same membrane to fail as there is in Goretex or similar.

I've got the Paramo 'Velez Adventure Light' one for day to day walking the dawg etc and love it.
