Does anyone have any recommendations for a good side entry bottle cage which would work under the top tube of my FlareMax? There are some good side entry cages out there but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of mounting them upside down as a bottle may be more prone to falling out as the weight is on the 'cage' as opposed to against the frame in a traditional mounting position.

I use a Nukeproof Horizon one upside down on my Starling. It's reversible by moving a widget to the other end and turning it round.

Faultless bottle retention, though my shock piggyback probably helps.

Seems out of stock now though.

Not sure if it counts as side loading but the best (well, only) upside down bottle I ever found for proper mountain biking was a Fidlock. Everything else lasted a few rides or a few weeks before breaking.

Cheers guys. Just for the lolz I'm racing this years XC nat champs on the Cotic so there's a good chance I'll be needing a bottle.

Never lost a bottle using a side-load specialized Zee in that position.

Can't go wrong with a Zee.

I broke mine a bit in a crash and it's still working fine.

Fidlock, never lost a bottle on the trail, run it upside down on an enduro rig, survived all day at BPW on some rough stuff and medium sized drop offs.

Not overly cheap, but does the job very well.

There was a video, linked here in a previous thread possibly. Guy builds a rig to test bottle cages. Think zee performed well.

Have you got room for a proper bottle? Not looked at a Flare but a mates Rocket only has room for the smaller Fidlock
