Me and a few mates are looking for somewhere to stay in the Lakes. Probably going to base ourselves around Coniston/Ambleside riding wise anybody know anything decent nearby? Bunkhouse would be fine but a cheap B&B would be better 🙂

Cheap B+B and the Lake District does not compute IME. I've not stayed here but I like the look of this place - near Grizedale too.

That Rookhow Centre place is booked up, anyone else got any ideas of the same type?

We spent last weekend in Hawkshead, so for Grizedale that's very convenient. We noticed quite a few bike racks in the large car park. There was a campsite opposite too, not sure it had any facilities (eg showers).

As for cheap that doesn't compute for Lakes - we paid £50 pppn for a reasonable B&B

I might sack it off and head up to Scotland. I'm not after a boutique B&B, I'm just after somewhere functional to stay. We'll be heading to a pub for a few pints and something to eat. Seems Scotland is more switched on for this type of thing.

Great spot, out of the way a bit, but a nice walk back from the pub 🙂

I know its a little way away from Grizedale but Cranford House in keswick is excellent. Its cheap, friendly, clean and they do a great fry up. It also welcomes cyclists. Very close to Whinlatter too.

neil, how about borrowdale YHA? bit more keswick way than ambleside etc, but it's an ace location and reasonable prices...

I stayed in the camping barn at Rosthwaite - fairly basic but nothing wrong with it. RIght at the bottom of a superb rocky descent on the Borrowdale Bash.
