I'm quite liking the theory of running duo up front, but i am not really wanting to get rid of my XT chain set and shelling out for a middleburn duo............yet!

however i would like to move the gear ratio from 22 / 32 to a more me friendly higer one... i was thinking something similar to the 29 / 42 one's used on the middleburn duo crankset. i'd rather it be a 28 / 40(38?) though.

so my question is does anyone know where i would be able to get hold of chain rings in such sizes?

thanks in advance.

TA Specialites Chinook from SJS Cycles.

Don't forget that if you are using normal cranks the big ring will be in the middle ring position so order as such.

Yep, TA ones are the best bet, 28/40 is an excellent choice of ratios too IMO.

Indeed I made the mistake of going 26/40, the ratios are fine but the front shfting isn't all that as I'm over the capacity of the front mech, I'm happy to stick with 26T for the Clic24 solo though, but will change to a 28T after.

I was going to sell them as I got frustrated with the front shifting as I just wasn't setting it up right, also at first the 40T can be quite a shock to the legs but you soon get used to it, glad I didn't sell it's a great set up.

hows about wear and tear? the seem to perform as well as say middleburn slick shift chainrings? i know they work well, but don't seem to be able to get the sizes i want. having said that the TA's do look particularly sweet.

They seem to wear really well, I had a set on my Epic for just over 6 months, which included a 12 hour solo and a few other long rides, neither is showing any wear. They're not particularly expensive anyway when you do wear them out.

I'd choose TA Specialites over Middleburn anytime, I have a very dim view of Middleburn rings i.e. I think they are crap.
