Apologies if this was posted already, but the 7stanes blog was a bit vague, I was there last night and it's all good (no great!) apart from Spooky Wood. I love snow and ice riding but it's still a big ice sheet on the last 200m of a climb (dont loose momemtum) and I thought the descent would be icy and interesting but it turned out to be a deeply rutted slush puppy trundle (a good few inches deep in most places) on the way down. Pushing on the way down just isnt fun in my book!
In comparison to the slightly lower stuff where theres no snow or ice its just not worth it. IMO.
is spooky woods ever worth it ?
Spooky Wood is over rated in my opinion anyway.
Spooky Wood is the one of the worst trails I've ever ridden so don't think you've lost out.
Don't really think there's any need to open into a discussion as to how good a trail it is....
Thanks for the info!
Still snow and ice? ****.
The rest of it is ace though, did 2 runs round red yesterday first Inc spooky and 2nd without. Every other trail was in great condition.
From the top of the red runs berms is stunning simple and sublime 😀
I'm guessinguie black is still not a go-er?
Glad I didn't head for Inners yesterday then ! ! !
Can't imagine what Minch Moor would be like if SpWd is chock full of ice.
I was up to the radio mast yesterday and there's still a lot of snow high up. Going straight up the hiking trail, skipping the kips, the snow starts when you're past the steep bit and have trees both sides of you. It's then a push all the way to the top - maybe 25 mins walking. I went down via all sorts of bits and pieces, so don't know what the boundary trail was like.
Also noticed there was loads of timber work on the go round the top of redemption climb, with trails shut. Maybe this has been there for ages, but it was my first MTB ride since before Christmas (!) so I'd not seen it. Awesome to get back out round GT tbh.

If it is that bad it should be shut before it is wrecked/needs major tlc aka Whinlatter.
The blue(Betty? ) bit is just as good anyway.
They've fenced off the rock steps/drops at the top for that very reason.
The dry chicken runs are a bit misleading....it quickly turned to gloopy cr@p a couple of berms later and didn't become properly rideable until 2/3 the way down Spooky. Runs after that are all A1 nick.
anyone know what the blue is like atm? was hoping for a very gentle spin on the blue/red later this week. think i'll give spooky wood a miss if its still bad.
I was there on sunday too, there is no snow to speak of below the level of spookywoods so the blue should be fine.
Was there yesterday late in the day and only Spooky Wood is affected - probably the most fun I've had coming down it, slushy and slidey. Some of the red climb after Pennels Vennel is a little mooshy too, but the blue is sweet at the mo. There's still bits of the red closed at Ewok/Double X.
