[Closed] Glentress Red Times - How fast is everyone?

As the title suggests, I'm interested in what is a decent pace for a full lap of the Red run at GT including the matrix climb.

The gumph on their website says it should take between 1.5-3 hrs and is 'advanced'. But given I can do it in 90 minutes and am far from at an advanced level (only been cycling for 6 months) this doesn't seem particularly accurate!

I'm keen to know what an average club level cyclist does it in, I'm guessing 1.05-1.15 ish??? Need a time to aim at!

Prize for the fastest ๐Ÿ˜‰

Does the clock start/stop when you leave/enter Peel carpark, or start/leave the single track?

computer says 1:24, 1:20, 1:15 back to back last September. I might have a go tomorrow. Should we start a top gear style board?

Jeez - it takes me 53 minutes of general faffing about in the car park, getting past the bike shop, the cafe...

I like the times for Spooky and Berm Baby though - I'm not last at somethings!

I don't know but I did the black, red, and blue in 04:20 in that order, including stops for food etc.

Normally about 1.5hours but I love the pie run so ride the matrix & then ride back up the fire road.
Oh and I have to ride the blue descent from the buzzards nest car park so climb back up for that.
When I started riding there in 2005 I could ride it in 1:15 but the route has been altered since then.
I think anything under an hour in good.
That's now my incentive to lose the belly. Thanks.

I only ever use one leg at GT.

Three would seem unfair.

25.9 minutes ๐Ÿ˜€

Sure I've done it in about an hour. AS discussed on another thread I've done the back/innerliethen/red as a training ride a couple of times. Last time I did it on my own at racing pace and the whole lot including riding between GT and Inners took 5.5hours. I faffed a bit stopping back at the car for resupply of food. I would have been knackered too so fresh legs under 50 minutes would seem doable.

Actually, the route guide says 18km (11.1 miles) so under an hour easy, under 50 minutes would be tough but maybe doable if you didn't plan on doing much else for the rest of the day.

I'm not sure I've ever done the red from start to finish without either doing extra little bits en route or missing bits out, never mind stopping to talk crap.

how are you supposed to do berm baby berm without pedalling, or are you allowed a rolling start?

Usual rule is no pedalling after the first roller.

And this is the reason I don't like trail centres - they're not meant to be racetracks.

SBZ- I don't think berm baby berm removed any interesting trails, it's quite compact- hugs right to the side of the road beside the freeride area. The ones further along are still there.

they're not meant to be racetracks.

We're not allowed to try and ride our bikes fast? Is that something that only happens at trail centres?

Haven't a clue. We spent more time talking rubbish than riding usually.

That generally describes our rides

And this is the reason I don't like trail centres - they're not meant to be racetracks.

The funny thing is, I do like to ride my bike fast, I do tend to ride routes at trail centres without stopping, and I quite often time myself round them - but I don't actually tend to make a note of the times (not even for the centres and routes I have actually ridden ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I'm also not about to start calling "rider left" when coming up behind somebody slower - quite happy to sit well back and wait until it's convenient for them to pull to one side (though people leaving their bikes in the way when stopping to have a chat does irritate me).

No idea how long the red takes.
My twelve year old son did the black in about 90 minutes, is that longer or shorter?

I like the idea of that website although it relies heavily on the honesty of people submitting. However, I'd rather ride slower and further than try and blast round the red in an hour and collapse.

It also relies on it being fairly empty. If a trail is not closed for a race then you should ride responsibly although I would guess most of the time gain would be up where the paths are often wider and the speeds slower. From my experience of racing, the downs make very little difference, it's the ups where big time gaps can be created.

I am sure I used to get around in an hour and not much change, back in the day, when I was fit, but the first climb was a lot shorter then with fireroad instead of the tedious switchbacks.

My record for the black is just over two hours.

I know for a fact that, for me, there's only one thing certain about riding Spooky Wood faster and faster each time I go and that's a free trip to Gala Hospital in an ambulance; like the lad last Sunday with his Tibia sticking out through his sock.
I try and ration the amount of times I do this route (and Caddon Bank) 'cos I know I'll get blase and blimming crown myself.. ๐Ÿ™
