MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Any decent mtbing straight from the city? Going for a few days and wondering if I should take the bike.
Cheers.
There must have been at least a dozen of these questions in the last year, a wee google search with singletrackworld at the end will show you them...
Cheers
Do you mean riding straight from the city? If that's the case Cathkin Braes is probably your best bet - commonwealth games mtb course about 6 miles from the city centre - some climbing involved to get there though.
lots of local rides with GMBC if you can get to the north of the city on a Tue or Wed evening, or Sunday morning. All details on club website and FB page :

Aye, straight from city.
Cathkin Braes would be my choice then, get here quick though while the sun's shining - it doesn't happen very often 🙂
Queens Park, not after dark though...
it's a bit of a trek out to Milngavie for the GMBC start, so would agree that Cathkin is the closest real riding straight from city - probably half an hour on bike from city centre. Not the best part of town and the local wildlife at Cathkin will be rampantly fuelled up on the Buckfast in this sunshine....
Pollock Park also has some good bits, but not for more than an hour's riding really.
Queens Park
??

Double what Cathkin has then!
Nobeer - if it takes you half an hour to get round Cathkin you really are getting old and slow 🙂
3 laps is a decent workout, but it is very much an engineered racecourse. OP - I wouldn't ride there solo of a summers evening
Merely factoring in the neds, staffies, buckie glass, doggers, fires and ..... 😆

In waether like this I'd be surprised if you were the only one riding a bike up there. But when I lived in the south side of Glasgow, and before Cathkin Braes was ripped apart, I used to ride up there at least once a week, never had any issues with neds.
Gary - I have had a few encounters there with the locals, but all generally good banter, if a bit scary at the time. There have been a few less amicable interfaces between riders and locals, incl dog walkers, various bits of chat on the Catkin MTB Facebook page. Generally though, if there are a few folk riding in a group, it's as safe as anywhere on the outskirts of the city.
You can always jump on the train from the city centre to Milngavie... Doesn't take long.
As for Cathkin, plenty of folk riding up there when the weather is good so lone-riding shouldn't be an issue.
