[Closed] Giant Anthem X - What Size? What Experiences? Could It Ever Replace My Pace 405?

I'm 5'8 with a 30" inside leg, I was thinking about getting an Anthem X but not sure on the size? Anyone similar size with one?

Also, what are the experiences of these? I have only heard good things. I do want something faster for a little bit of racing but will this become my trail bike? How is it when it gets to a few rocks, what can and what can't it cope with?

...will this bike replace my 130mm Pace 405, which I really like, it has the DT XMC Carbon forks and climbs and descends amazingly. Would the Giant Anthem be similar?

Any experiences would be great. Cheers.

I feel this is now a rather stock response from me re the anthem, but I HATED it!
I have never hated a bike before but, the anthem and me, although a perfect match on paper, never got on. No matter how much I played about with the shocks or the bike set up nothing changed the feeling of it being slow and very difficult to descend on. If I got it to feel good on the downs it felt too over the back on the climbs and vice versa. I am not a complete mechanical idiot and followed all the instructions, but we never got on. Sold it to some one who loved it, most do, but try before you buy. I didn't, thinking that it was an improvement on the old Santa cruz blur xc, which was my first full sus bike, that was amazing the, anthem was horrible.
Much much happier faster and more comfortable on the hardtail that I replaced it with as I couldn't afford a full sus after wasting the cash on the anthem x.
You will probably love it but it's not quite as guaranteed as the press would like you to believe.

i would say a medium or even a small... my lodger is about 5'7" with fairly short legs and has just taken delivery of a 2010 Anthem X2 in size small... it's quite compact, but the standover height is spot on. If the standover height on the medium is similar, that would be the way ahead.

have you thought about a canyon?... of even one of the cannondale rz's that pauls cycles are selling off at great prices?

well i love my 2010 x2 (in small) 5ft 5" and a 1/4 ๐Ÿ˜‰ (29" inside leg/i think?) does everything i want out of a bike (i ride mainly marlbrough downs/ridgeway/cherhill/wandsdyke/salisbury plain) for my type of riding, mainly slow (read unfit)cross country is perfect for me. am also surprised how it can handle more extreme terrain (considering it's only 100mm) but i wouldn't put it with your pace though,it sounds more burly 130mm/tougher frame e.t.c best advice like most would be to test ride one before deciding if possible ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm 5ft7in and a bit, and I am happy on my medium. Lots of seat post out of the frame, but then I ride my bikes in quite a XC setup (high saddle, long top tube/stem).

Really enjoy riding it - feels like it is on rails sometimes, and I run out of balls/talent before it does. Definitely worth getting a test ride.

I have a 2010 model which was a good deal. The 2011 ones have had a reasonable price hike, so I might be looking at a Canyon if I was buying tomorrow, unless you can get a good deal on the Anthem X.

Mine is currently off for repair under warranty (not spoken to the workshop properly yet, but it sounds like an improperly installed bearing has damaged the frame, and according to the workshop, it is not a fault they have seen before). The dealer got the parts through from Giant very quickly, which I guess is the benefit of a big brand bike.

5ft 9 and on a small here. Great fun in that size.90mm stem makes it long enough to ride for hours, brave pills help on technical dhs though. Gonna put a 70mm stem on it to make it more fun I reckon

5'9" and ride a medium, running 120mm forks. Can't fault it for either a race or general trail bike.
