Does anyone know if this is possible, just missed them as closed now. If anyone knows if you can get these forks PUSHED to your weight and knows if it's worth it please chip in. The only thing I can't seem to confirm is the details online seem to say you need a Fox RL or RLC??? Is this because you need the lock-out lever to get them PUSHED and a normal Fox Vanilla Rebound only fork isn't going to be able to get the upgrade?
Forks need to be 2003-2009 rl or rlc , cannot be done to the r damper model.
Shame, I know people on the retro forums and mtbr seem to like the old Vanillas but for someone like me who likes to lean and sprint with some of my weight over the front fork I was hoping there was a compression fix I could do to stop them bobbing and brake diving. If mojo or tftuned can't stiffen them up, I'm only 145lbs then I might need to look at new forks.
Yep, not the R (07 Vanilla R here) I had the same question
However the service, bit of tuning they do and the other cheap thing I had tweaked (might have been seal related) still made a surprisingly large difference
Oh and I am 100kg and my vanillas do not behave how you described when I chuck my considerable bulk on them so I wouldn't write them off yet. There are other things they can do with them that won't be as good as a push but still a big improvement...
Can you tell I like what they did to mine. ๐
mine are leaking from the left leg so the excessive bobbing I'm hoping is coming from the fact they need new seals and the forks aren't just like that from new. I've had quite a lot of forks over the years mainly fox and manitou and can tell these are still good for what they are...just need a little service and hopefully a little tune up with the small things mojo or tftuned might be able to stiffen things up a little without changing springs. Did you send them to tf garage-dweller?
Yes just a few months back. Probably still got the service notes somewhere in the shed. If I find them over the next day or so I will post back here what they did.
ok garage sounds good, report back if you find the technobabble so I can maybe copy it into my service form job- sheet. ๐ Thanks for the feedback
Found it. TF did
- Service
- Push seals
- modified the damping circuit to match weight and riding style.
- Changed spring
It also had heavier than stock oil in when it came back 10wt vs 7.5wt. I had been running 10 before. The
thanks garage, sounds good
got my service form done, things like the oil can make it feel quite different. Fingers crossed no parts need replacing in the dampener as don't think you can buy them anymore but I think they're meant to last and last.
