(Tried to bump original post, but closed to new replies... it's here)

We launched Geometry Geeks a year ago so I thought I'd offer an update!

- We now have over 3,300 bikes in the database, with 14,000 individual geometries.

- We're now serving over 3,500 unique users a week, mostly in the US. (UK #2)

- We've added some clever stuff, like highlighting when a value you've entered seems too high/low, and admins get notification when folks add junk/incomplete data.

- We get sporadic spreadsheets of data from companies as big as Cannondale and as small as Mason. Always welcome, manufacturers!

- We've had to host ads (sorry) and are raking the cash at about 20p per day.

- We've still not released a search-by-geometry or visual comparison tool, because they're hard. We are trying though 🙂

Anyway, I wanted to say thanks to you lot for the many ideas we got/get sent and for adding many bikes. I recognise a lot of STW usernames and STW bikes.

It's still very much a side project, but it's fun to have built something people actually seem to use.

B

I’ve got to say it’s a useful tool.

Ill definatey be visiting again when feeling the need to compare .

Good effort for putting it together

Yup often use it. Its a good resource and saves me typing in ea bike/frame geometry into a spreadsheet

Shame it doesn't extrapolate mfr data to give things like reach & stack

We've been playing with a self-made visual comparison tool (think BikeCAD) for a while, but it's hard to get meaningful results when trying to extrapolate... there's usually not enough data to fully define the bike, and often it's contradictory. I do agree it would be great though. Anyone with javascript and GCSE geometry is invited to help!

I like this - it's a neat little site, nicely presented and easy to use. Good work :o)

Your starling murmur info is wrong

I find it a useful site, adding data is very slick. It would be nice to search by measurement e.g. top tube longer than, head angle less than etc.

This has come on leaps and bounds since last year.
It's really useful. Good range of bikes. Great tool. Congrats!

I guess the next step would be to design a web crawler that is able to  gather all the data for you.Would require a rather clever algorithm to be built, but would cut down significantly on your time, errors and missing data.

Cheers all

@thepodge - what's wrong with the Murmur info? (edit: link)

(as an aside, if anyone does spot a typo, you can edit the geometry and bike info directly. We keep a version history too so if some weirdo did start intentionally abusing the data, we can revert)

@dadbike - yes, this. We're working on it. Hard though because of data quality. We've done a massive amount behind the scenes in the last few months to identify and fix outliers, typos, wrong units, mis-formatted (spaces), differently-formatted (commas) etc, to allow this feature to work. Stay tuned.

@cokie - that's nice idea but a massive amount of work! We've come across more different ways of representing a geo table than I ever thought possible. Any support for a boycott of brands who only provide it as an image?!

Things that are usually standard between sizes such as head angle, seat angle, chaninstay, front & rear travel are vastly different on your site, plus the head tube is longer on the small than the large which is usually the other way round.

Maybe you've taken them from the official website but a 20 degree difference between small and large seat angle cannot be correct.

I would edit it but that means signing up.

@thepodge - Ah I see what's happened. You've looked at so many bikes that the site thinks you're a bot, and is giving you nonsense data. There should be a pretty prominent message to that effect. If you log in, it fixes itself. Note that logging in doesn't require a password, and we don't do anything with your email address other than sending you the login link.

Great site.

Now I can get rid of my unwieldy spreadsheet. 🙂

Congratulations!

I haven't used the site, but it looks like a very useful resource if I can ever afford to replace my current mountain bikes!

I remember your original thread & it's good to see that you have managed to grow the site as a resource!
