Is there a way that I can work out the potential top speed of a gear ratio before spinning out?

I was trying to work out what the difference would be between a 38x11 and a 40x11 or 42x11 on a 29er.

Cool....

38x11 @ 80rpm = 23.8mph
42x11 @ 80rpm = 26.3mph

Not a great deal in it.

Cheers guys 8)
